Thomas was born November 26, 1962, the sixth of seven children to Joseph and Margaret (Joe & Peg).
He attended St. Thomas Aquinas School. Thomas joined the Boy Scouts of America as a cub scout and stayed on as a scout leader. He was a gentle soul and enjoyed working with and mentoring the boys. Much later on he got involved with the START program with his nephew, Matthew, (St. Thomas Aquinas Rising Teens). Again Thomas and Matthew stayed involved long after Matthew was a teen.
Thomas initially went to St. Stephen's High School, but transferred to Power Memorial upon it's closing. Thomas went on to work for the Board of Education until they closed his department. He then became a dog walker in Park Slope. Even the dogs new what a gentle soul he was, making him very popular and in high demand. He later went into security, leaving when his health was failing.
Thomas was a sci-fi fan and had a great sense of humor (had to have that in the crazy family he was born into.)
Thomas battled and won over his alcohol addiction... and in true Thomas fashion he stayed on in the program helping many others in their journeys.
Thomas was diagnosed with emphysema in 2012. Unfortunately he could not vanquish his nicotine addiction. He had been hospitalized numerous times for breathing issues. This last time, Thomas reassured his brother he'd be home "in a few days". Sadly, that didn't happen. After being resuscitated several times, Thomas said,"no more, please" and signed a DNR.
Thomas left us in the early hours of May 4th, after having said goodbye to his remaining siblings. He has been reunited with his parents, brothers Joseph and Stephen, sister Mary Ann and niece Lisa.
May the 4th be with you Thomas (figures you'd pick that day.)
