My family and I would like to extend our condolences to the entire Ortiz family,
I was so sorry to hear about Vics passing. I read about it in the NYPD Detectives Association Gold Shield magazine. Unfortunately Vic passed away only  few weeks before mine. They worked in the squad and attended the Hostage Negotiating training together.
I met  Vic multiple times as a child and adulthood, always a gentleman.

My Father's Eulogy Pt1:  January 7th 2017
My Father was an imperfect man.
I am his imperfect son.
If you ask his 4 children: Elaine, Anthony, Sonya and myself, we would tell you he was a great Father.
If you ask his ex-wives, Laura and Josephine, well  they would tell you he was a great Father.  If you ask his newlywed wife, Anne, she would say she has never been loved so much.
I heard so many tell me these past days that he was the Father they wished they had, that he was a great man, that he was a real man. I know I wouldn't be who I am today without the sense of responsibility and honor my father instilled in me. He was the first born, like I am the first born, and he taught me that we had to be responsible for those who counted on us. To this day, whether it was at work or in my personal life, I feel responsible for those under my care. That feeling of responsibility is one of the great joys of my life. The lesson took, Dad.

My Father's Eulogy Pt 3:
When he found out he was seriously ill, my Father said something to me which I will always remember:
In the days to come, when a great emptiness comes over you, know that you can always count on me.
Someone told me recently You've lived a good life if, at the end, there's sorrow but there are also smiles.
I know that I will always smile when I think about my Father, and I believe you will, too

My Dad was a truly good man who accomplished many things in his lifetime.  Everyone who met my Dad, loved him.  He had many talents, but his greatest gift was his ability to love and to be loved.  He will be greatly missed by all of us:  Castel - his "Prince"; Anthony - his "Baby Boy and Macho Lindo"; Sonya - his "Angel Face and Foo Foo"; Anne - his "Angel"; and myself - his "Laine Linda".  They say the love you make is equal to the love you take -- no one takes more love with him than "My Dad".  I "loves" you Daddy!  You are the greatest love of my life!

During his illustrious NYPD career he was a homicide and narcotics detective, and a member of the hostage negotiating team among other duties. After retiring from police work he was a top investigator at NYRA. He will be returned to the mountains where he was born, in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico. Everyone who knew him loved him and he will be greatly missed by us all...

Victor Castel Ortiz (1935-2017) passed away on Jan. 1, 2017 after a long battle with kidney cancer. He was 81. Beloved Father of 4 children: Castel, Elaine, Anthony and Sonya. Devoted Husband of Anne. Ex-Husband of Laura and Josephine. He started out as a prizefighter before joining the NY police force.

To my sweetest Uncle Castel. I was deeply upset that you left us. I know you are in a better place in no more pain and suffering. If I only knew. My mom your sis is deeply saddened. You were a great Uncle to us. So funny. Always made us laugh.May u rest in peace.

I was very saddened to hear of Victor's passing . In the 43+ years of my friendship with his son Castel, I've been blessed on numerous occasions throughout the years to have spent time with Victor and he had a huge impact on my life. He was larger than life to me and cool as they come! What an amazing journey he led, accomplishing many important things that made a huge difference in this world.
Most precious is he gave me my dearest and oldest/youngest friend, his son Castel. I'd like to extend my deepest and heartfelt sympathies to Castel, Anthony, Elaine and the entire family. And to Victor, I will always remember him for being a man who lived his life the way he wanted and led by example. R.I.P.
