Vincent “Jimmy” Dagostino, 92, passed away on March 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, selflessness, and deep commitment to those he cherished.
Born on April 1, 1932, in Giovinazzo, Bari, Italy, to Michele and Anna Dagostino, Jimmy had the purest of hearts and found his greatest joy in sharing a meal with family. At 18, he immigrated to the United States in search of a better future and later served his adopted country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
After his service, Jimmy returned to Italy, where he met Angela. They married and built a beautiful life together, first settling in Lower Manhattan, where they welcomed their two children before eventually moving to Brooklyn. For 63 years they shared a bond filled with love, hard work, and devotion.
A man of tireless determination, Jimmy worked endlessly to provide for his family, holding numerous jobs over the years—shucker at Vincent’s Clam Bar, sausage maker at the San Gennaro Festival, elevator operator, porter, butcher, and superintendent. No matter the role, he approached it with pride and care, ensuring a better life for his loved ones. His sacrifices laid the foundation for strength and opportunity for the generations that followed.
Beyond his work ethic, Jimmy was known for his kindness, wisdom, and quiet humor. He found joy in horse races, gardening, classic movies, opera, and a good loaf of bread—always reaching for the heel. His life was the embodiment of the American dream, built on perseverance, honor, and an enduring love for family.
Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife, Angela; his daughter, Anna; his son, Michael; granddaughters, Cassie, Maya, and Brooke; great-granddaughter, Leyla; brother, Savino; and many adoring sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
