It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Efthymia (Mitsa) Kalampokis Stedman, a loving sister, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us peacefully in her home on April 6, 2025, at the age of 91.
Mitsa was born in Athens, Greece on February 19, 1934, and throughout her life, she radiated warmth, beauty, and an unshakable strength that touched everyone she met. From the moment she entered the lives of those around her, Mitsa’s presence was undeniable. She was the heartbeat of her family, the pillar of strength and love that supported them through every challenge. Mitsa made their house a home, filling it with warmth, laughter, and the unmistakable scent of her delicious Greek cooking. She was a natural hostess, making every gathering an unforgettable experience, especially the many Greek Easter celebrations and family dinners she orchestrated with her immense talent in the kitchen.
She is survived by her devoted husband Glenn, her loving daughter Vassiliki (Kiki), her cherished grandchildren Katerina and George (Ashley), and all who were fortunate enough to be touched by her warmth and love.
Mitsa’s love story with her husband Glenn began in Montreal, where they met when she was serving multinational seamen at the Mariners House. Their connection was instant, and after a chance meeting where Mitsa translated for a Greek officer at Queen Mary's Hospital, her future husband asked her out for coffee. Despite her initial dislike of peach pie, she agreed to a slice—and the rest, as they say, is history. They married, settled in Brossard, and spent 59 years building a life together, full of love, adventure, travel and shared memories. To her husband, she was not just a partner, but his rock, his greatest love, and his best friend. “I had the gift and privilege of spending 59 amazing years with you in this lifetime. I can’t wait to spend forever with you in the next. I love you.”
Her daughter Vassiliki (Kiki) lovingly recalls Mitsa with the following heartfelt words: "My darling Mama mou, not only my mother but my best friend and confidante. You have always been my role model. With all that you have taught me, I will strive to live up to your shining qualities," she shared. Mitsa’s love for her family knew no bounds, and her strength and grace were qualities admired by all who knew her.
As a grandmother to Katerina and George, Mitsa was a force of nature—a guiding light, a source of unconditional love, and a true Greek goddess in every sense of the word. Her granddaughter’s heartfelt words say it all: “To my yiayia, my queen, you have been a great yiayia, mother figure, and wonderful and powerful presence in my life. You are irreplaceable and unforgettable. No one can take your place. You are the epitome of what sunshine and beauty is, both inside and out. I love you infinitely and will always miss you. Life is not the same without you, but I know you are in a more comfortable place, and you will always be with me.”
Mitsa’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her love, her unwavering support, and her indomitable spirit will never be forgotten. Though she may no longer walk among us, she is now in a place of peace, watching over her family with the same love and care that defined her life.
Mitsa, you were the definition of grace, kindness, and strength. You will forever remain in our hearts. Until we meet again, our beautiful earth angel. May your soul rest in eternal peace, Mitsa. You will always be deeply missed and never forgotten.
The family will receive condolences at La Maison Darche Funeral Home, 7679 Blvd Taschereau, Brossard, Quebec, J4Y 1A2 on Monday April 14th 2025, from 14:00 to 21:00.
