Born on September 20th 1941 to Chinese parents in Malaysia during the second world war, Hsueh Hwee (Daisy) had a full and eventful life. She was an academic student and obtained her bachelor's degree from Nanyang University in Singapore.
It was the 60s and being an adventurous type, she decided to study abroad and pursued graduate studies at the University of Winnipeg. However, she had difficulty adjusting to Canada and decided to return home, possibly to further studies at Nanyang, but fate intervened and while in Montreal, she met her British born husband, Ian and they married in 1969.
They bought a house together in Brossard, Quebec in 1971 and for a couple of years she worked at McGill University as a lab assistant, at least until their son Brian arrived in 1975. After that she concentrated on family life and today, she is a grandmother of two beautiful grandchildren, Kieran (15) and Sena (13 1/2). She was able to assist her youngest brother, Cheng, to come to Canada for his college education and he later settled in Burlington, Ontario to start his own family. She always found it difficult being so far away from her parents, sisters, brothers, nephews and nieces. She loved her family dearly and was able to visit Malaysia twice in 1984 and 2004.
You couldn't ask for a kinder, gentler soul and she will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
Hsueh Hwee passed away peacefully on August 26th 2025.
