Mr. Porfirio Magalang

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Porfirio “Rio” Magalang, 82, who passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026 in the palliative care unit of CHSLD Champlain in Brossard. He was born on November 28, 1943, in Marinduque, Philippines, a son of the late Domingo Magalang and Isidra Hernandez.

Rio is survived by his wife of 26 years Angelita Sevilla, his sons Maynard (Lourdes) and Marvin (Marilou) from his late first wife Leonila Manahan; four grandchildren Keisha, Nathan, Julianna, and Keanu Noel.

Rio was an accountant in the Philippines before migrating to Canada in the 1970s. He was working at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a United Nations agency, for over 25 years until his retirement in the travel claims division. Rio was an active member of the Filipino Canadian Community of the South Shore (FCCSS). Rio had a big heart, thoughtful of his family and friends, and “Everyone’s dad.” Rio had a passion for gardening, love of music, and organizing games and activities for parties within the community.

Above all, he will be remembered for all his wonderful qualities and generousness to his family and friends in Canada, USA, and in the Philippines.

Rio and his family wishes to thank CHSLD Champlain, Charles LeMoyne Hospital, Jewish General Hospital for their compassion and care.
