He was born in 1948 in Brownsville, Texas. Alex was a devoted husband, and a loving and caring son, brother, cousin, father, grandfather, and uncle. He mostly enjoyed spending quality time with his family and loved making delicious bar-b-que for his loved ones. Alex was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Alex was a selfless patriot who loved his country and led a distinguished career in public service and law enforcement. He began his public service career as a U.S. Navy SEABEE and was a Vietnam veteran. Alex also served as a Brownsville Police Officer, U.S. Border Patrol Agent, U.S. Veterans Administration Investigator, INS Special Agent and ultimately as a U.S. Customs Service Senior Special Agent until he retired in 2002, after 34 years of government service.
Alex is preceded in death by his parents Alexander W. Champion Jr., and Guadalupe V. Champion.
He is survived by his wife, Claudia, his sons Francisco, Marco (Laura) Champion (son of Rebecca Fraire), and Alex (Liz) Champion (son of Rebecca Fraire), and daughter Odett (Mike) Newman (daughter of Rebecca Fraire), along with his ten grandchildren: Karina, Madison, Lexi, Marco, Leslie, Lauren, Anthony, Adrian, Andrew and Abella. Alejandro is also survived by his siblings: Luis (Mary Jo) Champion, Irma (Steve) Vera, Rey (Rose) Champion, Gloria (Ronald) Hines, Joe Albert Champion, Lillian (Bernard) Blanchard, Margaret (Joe) Sauceda.
Visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church at 10 a.m. followed by committal service at Buena Vista Burial Park.
