Ernestina Alvarado, 92, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Solara Hospital, Brownsville, Texas. Ernestina “Tina”, born on September 7, 1924, was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother who loved her family. She showed that love by sharing stories of her youth and reminiscing about the “old days.” She enjoyed shopping and sewing for her daughters and granddaughters when they were young. She also liked to pass the time by watching her novelas and visiting with family and friends. Many years ago, she worked as a polling (voting) clerk at Resaca Elementary during city and county elections. Before marriage, she briefly worked at Woolworth’s downtown. Soon after World War II ended, she married the love of her life, Marcial. They went on to celebrate 50 years of marriage in 1995. Now they are together for eternity. A special Thank You to her caregivers, Ana Magoral, Flor Jimenez, Amelia Garcia and Perla Ledezma. Also a special recognition to the staff and administration of Solara Hospital for their outstanding care shown to our mother. Our mother, Tina, will be deeply missed by all her family and those who knew her. May she now rest peacefully after a lengthy illness. She is preceded in death by her husband; Marcial H. Alvarado, parents; Eduardo and Hilaria P. Garcia, sister; Jesusa Barron and brother; Raul P. Garcia. Left to cherish her memory are her children; Aida A. Yzaguirre, Sylvia A. Cepeda (Francisco), Joe M. Alvarado and Bee Alvarado, of Houston, Texas, grandchildren; Jennifer Lee Yzaguirre (Rigo), Stacy Yzaguirre-Perez (Rudy), Valerie Yzaguirre Plata (Luis Alberto, Jr.) and Dr. Celina D. Cepeda, of Dallas, Texas, great Grandchildren; Marc Anthony Gonzalez, Andrew Jace Perez. Also surviving her are her sisters; Guadalupe G. Trevino (Alberto+) of Salida, California and Lydia G. Martinez (Lupe) of San Benito, Texas. Visitation will begin Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 3pm to 9pm with a Rosary at 7pm at Funeraria Del Angel Rose Lawn at 4464 Old Port Isabel Rd., Brownsville, Texas. Mass will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 11am at Our Lady of Guadalupe followed by a committal service to Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
