He was born March 2, 1934 in Brownsville, Texas.
He attended Brownsville Public Schools and started working his family business. Later in life he joined RGV Gas Company and proudly retired after thirty five years of service. He was a longtime parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. Eugenio as his friends knew him and Blanco his nickname and Dad as we his children knew him loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman who loved to go to the beach and also loved duck hunting. His favorite holiday celebration was Easter with all this family at the "El Rancho". He enjoyed making memories traveling throughout the United States and Mexico with his family. He had a love for life staying active after retirement and doing what he enjoyed most which was gardening and working on small projects at home. These included fixing up anything that had to be painted. He loved to keep multiple calendars to keep track of his daily life.
He was a very generous person always willing to help anybody in need and give helpful advice. Spending time with his grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren made him very happy. Later on in life although his mind declined, and was still enjoying the company of family events and being around people and still absolutely loved car rides and dining out. He will dearly be missed as a caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, sibling, uncle and friend. Also missing him will be his family pets.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eugenio Cantu Sr., and Rosa Cantu, his sons Evan Andrew Cantu, Eugene Cantu and Edward Lee Cantu. Also Preceding him in death this siblings Federico Cantu, Enrique Cantu, Alfredo Cantu, brother and Margarita C. Leal, Rosa C Turner and Aurora Nunez, sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Elisabel Cantu, His son Daniel Cantu, daughters Suzana Cantu, Sylvia Cantu, Guadalupe Cantu brother and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday October 24th at 2:00pm with a rosary at 7:00pm. Funeral Services will take place with a celebration of mass at Holy Family Catholic Church on Friday the 25th of October at 12:pm following Burial at Buena Vista Burial Park 125 McDavitt Blvd.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jeremy Cantu, Evan A Cantu, Jr., Gene Cantu, Valentine Collazo, Raul Moctezuma and Andy Ortega.
