I will always remember Fernando as a kind person and a good leader from my coast guard boot camp class. Rest in piece brother. 

It's been over a year and I'm just now learning of the loss of a great man, Ruiz and I were classmates in MK A school, he was a good friend. You will be deeply missed bro, my sincere condolences go out to the Ruiz family.

Nearly a year has gone by and I never knew of Fernando's tragic loss.  We were classmates at the US Border Patrol Academy in the summer of 2008.  He was a good man and a great friend.  Rest in Peace buddy.

Ruiz, my old buddy, although it may almost be a year since youve been gone, I just found out.  We had some good times in the Patrol man. We always knew you were destined for better things, so we all understood why you left Laredo. I wish I would have kept in touch with you more. The world feels a little emptier now that I know you are gone.

My sincere condolences to the Ruiz Family at this especially difficult time. I had the honor and privilege of knowing this wonderful person if only for a short time.  I shared a couple of undergraduate courses with him and occasionally bumped into him in the hallways of UTB recently....Always full of charisma, and always ready to extend a helping hand; you are definitely missed my friend......May you rest in peace.

My heart goes out to the Ruiz family. And especially Marcela, at this awful time. Not only was Fernando a part of the UTB family, he was also a member of the Environmental Health & Safety department family. I had the distinct pleasure of working with Fernando for the last two years. I've never met a finer man than him. Even as I know that God is holding him now, my heart is so heavy with his loss. Rest in peace Fernando, and know that you were so loved, while you were here and even more so now.

A Fernando solo me queda darle las garcias por haberle dado a mi amiga un capitulo en su vida lleno de amor y felicidad, ya que el era un gran hombre y mi amiga una gran mujer que supo como sacar lo mejor el tenia. En donde quiera que estubieran se veia el gran amor que se tenian el uno por el otro, siempre felices y sonrientes. Espero que Dios lo tenga en su gloria y que desde alla simpre este cuidandola mucho ya que nosotras sus amigas y su familia la estaremos cuidando lo mejor que podamos aqui en la tierra. Marcela, te quiero mucho, sabes que aqui estoy para lo que necesites. Me da mucho orgullo ver la mujer tan fuerte en que te haz convertido. With much respect I will remember Fernando and will continue to pray for his family.  Fernando was one of the best men I ever met, even beyond the service of our country.  He lived with an unsurpassed passion for life and was a great example of our core values of Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty.  I don't know about the rest of WHISKEY 181 but I still hear him answer...."How long have you been in the Coast Guard? All me bloomin' life, Sir. Me father was King Neptune, me mother was a mermaid. I was born on de crest of a wave, and rocked in de cradle of de deep. Me eyes is stars, me teeth is spars, me hair is hemp and seaweed.  And when I spits, I spits tar. I's tough, I is, I am, I are."   Fair winds and calm seas my old friend, I'll never forget you...

Marcela, no todo mundo tiene el privilegio de encontrar una mujer como Tu, asi como tu un hombre como Fernando, le diste todo tu ser, amor y comprension, su mirada y la tuya eran dos almas hechas una, y me siento orgullosa de haberlo tenido como yerno ya que a pesar de los obstaculos, siempre  camino' hacia adelante y logro lo que dificilmente un joven de su edad logra. Tengo presente su sonrisa, su hermosa voz y sobre todo la forma en que te veia, el te amaba profundamente, tanto como Tu a El, y  aunque ahorita nada es claro ante tus ojos, todo tiene un proposito perfecto y ten la seguridad que El se encuentra en los brazos de Dios Padre a quien debes de confiar y entregar todo tu dolor.    Te amo hija.

Fernando was a great man and a great leader, I had the pleasure to spend 8 weeks of boot camp with him, which he displayed strong courage and great support of everyone he knew. God Bless his wonderful family please accept my condoloences.

Ruiz was and still is a great man... The short time that I served with him in The Coast Guard Reserves in South Padre I saw nothing but a person with good leadership skills and a great attitude, you will be greatly missed by us..

Mi mas sentido pesame a toda la Familia Ruiz por la perdida irreparable de el joven Fernando Ruiz, fue poco el trato que tuve con el ya que llevo solo un semestre en esta institucion pero mas que suficiente para saber que era una persona Educada, respetuosa,integra, formal, responsable y trabajadora, definitivamente un ejemplo para todos nosotros en el trato a nuestros semejantes, definitivamente se le va a extranar y recordar siempre!. I am so sad to hear of the loss of Fernando.  He was always a welcome visitor to my labs and office.  He had such a distintive voice: I would always smile when I heard his voice knowing he was heading our direction.  Losing him is a great loss and I send you my condolences and prayers.

I did not know Fernando personally, but he was a member of our UTB family and I wish to express my sincerest condolences to his wife and daughter and to the entire family.  I read the bio of his life and looked at each picture in his gallery.  What a wonderful family man, friend, and all-round excellent inidvidual.  His life, though so short, was full of love, accomplishments, promise, and fun. He will always be remembered with love and laughter.

I will miss Fernando. 
We first met at MEPS when entering the Coast Guard. We where assigned to the same room before being sent to boot camp.  I remember we were both excited about the adventure we were about to begin.
At boot camp we were in the same squad bay.  We worked together and helped each other through some tough times. 
We both gained deep respect for one another.
He was an excellent leader, proved to have a great heart, and was patient with those who needed it.

Fernando was a fine young man who always sought to help and encourage.  He brightened my life through his smile and friendship, and we will miss him.

To the Ruiz family, please accept my condolences for you loss.  Fernando was a hard-working student who took on any challenge I placed before him and turned it into an opportunity to learn something new.  I worked closely with him as his faculty advisor at UTB (chaired his Professional Report project for his well-earned MPPM degree just last year).  All that time, I witnessed a miraculous transformation of a young intelligent man in less than one year.  I will deeply miss running into him around campus (often on his rounds), and our long chats about leadership, coffee, and kids.  May his spirit continue in all our hearts.
