He was a devoted man, which was evident in his continual love for his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved to make those around him laugh and was known to make friends with anyone he met.
He served in the National Guard of Texas after graduating from Los Fresnos High School in 1956. He then served n the United States Navy from 1957 until 1961. He proudly recalled crossing the equator twice while aboard the USS Bremerton and USS Helena. After his time in the Navy, he worked at Pan-American Bank (later Texas Commerce Bank) in Brownsville for over 30 years. He was inducted into the Teller Hall of Fame for TCB in the 1990s for his role in providing exceptional customer service, which he prided himself on.
He was one of the original parishioners of Our Heavenly Father Catholic Church in Olmito, Texas. He saw the formation of the parish from its start as Santa Ana Mission to Our Heavenly Father Mission until the creation of Our Heavenly Father Catholic Church. During this time, he received bible classes from the Basilica of Our Lady San Juan de Valle to serve as a eucharistic minister. As a eucharistic minister, he would continuously visit the sick and elderly sharing God's love through the holy eucharist. He actively served his parish in any necessary capacity, from an usher, to lector and even altar service.
He is preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Juanita Torres; his siblings Ramiro Torres and Amelia Torres; and his son, David Torres Conejo.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Sara Conejo Torres and children Veronica Torres Cox (Wayde) and Jamie Torres; his grandchildren Ashley Cox and Corina Weiser-Cox (Jana); and his siblings Antonio Torres (Ofelia), Anita Garcia (Frank), and Gloria Alaniz (Arnold), and all his nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ramiro Torres, Marcos Torres, Adrian Conejo, Daniel Conejo Jr., Delfino Cornejo Jr., Diego Garcia (Conejo), Adan Garcia, Roy Garcia and Diego Garcia (Torres).
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 5, 2022 from 1:00pm - 9:00pm with a rosary at 7:00pm in Chapel of Angels. A mass will be held at Our Heavenly Father Church in Olmito, Tx., at 1:00pm followed by a burial at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
