Juanita Castro Valles, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the age of 70 in Brownsville, Texas. Juanita is preceded in death by her father, +Raul Castro, Sr., her mother, +Aurora Castro, her brothers +Carlos, +Oscar, and +Armando Castro, and her sister +Gloria Martinez. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Victor Valles and her step-children. She is survived by her siblings Raul Castro, Jr., Maria Ofelia Arzamendi, Maria Adela Hinojosa, and Roberto Castro. She is also survived by her numerous nieces and nephews who loved their “Aunt Janie” dearly, considered her as a second mother, and who forever will be in their hearts. Juanita graduated from Brownsville High School in 1966 where she proudly represented her school as an Eaglelette. She obtained a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education from Texas A&I University in Kingsville. She served as an educator for 38 years, 36 of those devoted to Resaca Elementary as an Elementary Teacher and Facilitator in Brownsville ISD. After retirement, she also served as a teacher for refugee children. Juanita served as a role model by the example she left for so many lives she impacted over the years. With her humble beginnings, she supported and cared for both her parents, her brother Armando, her aunt, Manuela Hinojosa, and her in-laws until their eternal rest. Juanita was a devout Catholic her entire life, raised in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was currently a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel. She selflessly gave whatever she could to help others in need never asking for anything in return. Her lasting legacy will be the unconditional love she shared for all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 1 – 9 p.m. at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church followed by an entombment service at Buena Vista Burial Park. Serving as pallbearers are Emmanuel Valles, Roel Lopez, Orlando Lopez, David R. Castro, Ruben R. Castro, and Michael Hinojosa. Honorary pallbearers are Raul Castro, Jr., Miguel Cisneros, David Castro, and Robert “Bob’ Castro.
