Julia O. Zarate, beloved wife, devoted mother, esteemed businesswoman, and pillar of her community, passed away peacefully at the age of 90. Julia was born on April 12, 1934 and departed from this world on June 5, 2024.
Julia was a shining example of strength, resilience, and compassion. Married to the late Jose G. Zarate, she stood by his side as they built a life together filled with love, dedication, and entrepreneurship. As co-owners of Rex Cleaners, a business they founded in 1961, Julia and Jose exemplified the American dream. Their hard work and determination led to the establishment of 10 locations across Brownsville, Port Isabel, and Harlingen.
Julia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jose Zarate, her mother, Adelaida Morales, and her brothers Rafael Orozco, Santos Orozco, Guadalupe Borjas, and her sisters Inocencia O. Aldape, Angelita Lopez, and Francisca Valdez Borjas. She is survived by her brother Roberto Borjas.
Despite her busy schedule as a businesswoman, Julia always made family her top priority. She lovingly raised four children—Sergio, Maricela, Graciela, and Jose Luis—and instilled in them the values of education, perseverance, and kindness. Julia's unwavering support ensured that each of her children completed their college degrees, a testament to her commitment to their success.
Julia's dedication extended beyond her immediate family. She cherished her role as a grandmother to Marla, Joey, Ezekiel, and Zariah, and found joy in spending time with them. Julia's expansive heart also embraced her three spouse in-laws, Dolores, Monica, and Greg, whom she welcomed into her family with warmth and love.
Outside of her professional and familial responsibilities, Julia found solace in simple pleasures. She had a passion for gardening, nurturing vibrant blooms that mirrored her own radiant spirit. Julia also enjoyed playing lotería, finding delight in the camaraderie and excitement of the game.
Julia's journey began at the tender age of 12 when she started working as a caregiver for an elderly blind woman. Throughout her life, she remained dedicated to serving others and making a positive impact in her community. Her legacy of hard work, generosity, and compassion will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Julia O. Zarate leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished by her family, friends, and all who were touched by her remarkable life. Though she may have left this world, her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
