Leticia "Letty" Martinez, 47, of Brownsville, TX, entered into eternal rest on July 11, 2018 at University Hospital in San Antonio, TX. Letty was an active member of Our Heavenly Father Catholic Church in Olmito, TX under the direction of Fr. Juan Pablo. She was a BISD educator where she served for 24 years. She began her career as a para-professional in the Life Skills unit at Vermillion Elementary and later moved up to a teaching position where she taught with great love for her students with special needs at Vermillion Elementary, Oliveira Middle School, Triple T Program and lastly as the district's IT Specialist for Special Services.
Letty was an amazing individual. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Letty, among them, was the most important and that was to be givers from the heart. Living by her motto of "Do what you love and love what you do", Letty co-founded, the non-profit organization, BiG Heroes, Inc. and also served at the Good Neighbor Settlement House where the organization serves the less fortunate. Her love of the special needs community was very evident and she will be greatly missed.
Letty is preceded in death by her brother Ramiro Martinez, Jr. and is survived by both her parents, Ramiro Martinez, Sr and Evangelina C. Martinez, siblings, Oscar Martinez (Sonia), Belinda Martinez (Roland Aleman), sister-in-law, Araceli Martinez (Ramiro Jr), nieces, Mariel Maldonado, Ashley N. Martinez and Catherine A. Martinez and other extended family members.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista at 125 McDavitt Blvd in Brownsville, TX. To celebrate her life, the services will begin on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 11:00 am - 9 pm. Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm. Religious services will be held on Monday at 10:00 am with cremation services to follow.
