

Maria Lourdes Valdivia Mendez, affectionately known as “Uwi” and “Abuela,” passed away peacefully in Brownsville, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion to family.
She was born in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, to Pedro Valdivia and Librada Mendez, who preceded her in death. From the age of seven until her marriage, Maria was lovingly raised by Olavio Bochas and Odilia Gonzalez, who also preceded her in death and helped shape the compassionate and resilient woman she became.
Maria was a loyal wife to her beloved husband, Rogelio Garcia Lopez, who also preceded her in death. Together they built a family grounded in love, sacrifice, and unity. She was a dedicated and loving mother to her children: Dr. Claudia Garcia (Benjamin Calleros); Rogelio Garcia (Consuelo Rodriguez Olmos) and; Jesus Rolando Garcia.
Her greatest joy was being a spoiling grandmother to her cherished grandchildren: Daniel, Rogelio, Angel, Alejandro, Sebastian, and Patricio.
Maria is also survived by her beloved siblings: Anarbol, Zulema, Obdulio, Juanita Librada, Braulio, Abigail, Justino, Blanca, Rita, Elida, and Damasio.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Virginia, Orfa, and Exarjo.
Maria was a courageous and strong woman who lived a fulfilling life. She deeply loved her siblings, nieces, and nephews and always made time to listen—offering wisdom, comfort, and understanding to everyone she met. She enjoyed traveling, visiting casinos, and most of all, being surrounded by family.
Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love will be forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered—forever our Uwi, forever our Abuela.
A celebration of Maria’s life will be held on January 24, 2026, at Funeraria Del Angel Rose Lawn. A visitation will be held from 12:30 pm to 9:00 pm with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 pm.
