I just got home & the silence is creeping in again. I feel restless whenever I'm not moving around or keeping myself busy. I think that's why I've been traveling so much lately. As long as I'm going somewhere or doing something, I can keep my mind occupied. But the moment I stop... everything catches up with me.

All these emotions come rushing to the surface & I don't know how to stop them. I don't know how to stop myself from spiraling. The sadness feels so heavy & underneath it is this anger that we didn't get more time together. I keep thinking about all the moments we'll never have, all the conversations we were supposed to share, all the ordinary days I took for granted because I truly believed we'd have so many more.

This is my life without you now. 

I miss us nena. I miss our relationship. I miss knowing that no matter what happened, I had you. I miss calling you just to tell you something small, hearing your laugh, listening to you tell me about your day. I miss being your daughter..

It's been months since you passed & I keep wondering when this ache will ease. When will my heart stop feeling so heavy? When will I be able to think about you without feeling like someone is squeezing my chest? I just wish missing you didn't hurt so much.

You always let me chase my sense of wonder & adventure. You never made me feel like my dreams were too big or too far away… Instead, you walked beside me through every step, cheering me on, & believing in me long before I believed in myself.

Now I find myself standing at the edge of new beginnings & I'm afraid to take the leap. The unknown feels so much heavier without you here. Somewhere along the way after you passed, I lost a piece of that fearlessness you helped me carry.

Life has been so hard without you nena. Sometimes it feels like I'm meeting myself for the very first time yknow? & maybe that's exactly what's happening.. I'm learning who I am in a world where you no longer exist beside me. Like I'm discovering a version of myself that has to keep going without your unwavering faith in me.

I never realized how much of my courage came from simply knowing you were with me. Now I have to find it on my own.. & some days, I don't know how.

I hope that wherever you are, you’re able to still walk beside me. I hope that when I finally find the strength to jump into the unknown again, it's because a part of you never stopped believing in me.

I changed the sheets on your bed tonight.. I had washed & put away the ones that were on your bed before you passed & tonight I took them out again. As I was changing them, I caught the faintest smell of you.. It was barely there, but for a few seconds it felt like you were here with me again. 

And all I could think was that this is probably the last time. Because the next time they're washed, your scent will be gone too. I know it's just the way life works, but it hurts more than I know how to explain. It feels like I'm losing you all over again, one small piece at a time. Now even the smell that made everything feel like home…

I wish there were a way to keep it forever.. To put your scent in a bottle so I could open it whenever I missed you. Because I'm terrified of forgetting what it was like to walk into the house & know you were there without even seeing you!

I miss you so much nena. More than words will ever be enough to say. I would give anything to have one more hug, to hear you one more time, to smell you one more time..

Being at the house without you feels so strange. It's just not the same.. I knew it was going to be different, but it still hurts realizing you're not here. I love you & I miss you every day momma

It’s been 3 months since you passed nena & I’m still struggling to fully believe that you’re not here anymore. I know it’s real, but some part of me still expects you to be here. I still have moments where I want to call you, talk to you, or tell you something that happened & then I remember I can’t.

I’m coping though. I really am trying. I’ve gotten better at getting through the days even though some days are still harder than others. There’s still this emptiness inside of me that I don’t know what to do with.. it’s a space that I fear will never filled.

I’m trying to put my energy into things that are good for me.. to keep moving forward & to learn how to live with this new reality. It’s a learning curve trying to figure out how to be okay without you here.

I miss you more than I can explain. I wish you were here with me now but know that I’m trying.

El dolor sigue aqui mom y aparece en los momentos mas inesperados.. Sinceramente, hace que me sienta mas loca de lo que ya estoy

Mom! Necesito tus consejos!! No ves lo inmadura y tonta que sigo siendo?? Me siento tan sola sin ti. Nunca pense que fue se iba a sentir todo esto. Aqui voy otra vez pero ojala hubiera sabido que esto era todo el tiempo que ibamos a tener juntas... De verdad pense que ibas a vivir para siempre o por lo menos hasta que fueras muy viejita. Que paso nena? Apenas tenias 72! Decirlo en voz alta hasta se escucha tonto porque la verdad si es una edad grande.. pero para mi siempre te veias tan joven y tan hermosa. Y no lo digo solo ahora. Tu sabes que para mi siempre fuiste la mas hermosa. Y todavia lo eres.

Estaba viendo mis fotos y me encontre con esta. Me recordo que debo ser profesional 🤣 porque tu si que te veias toda profesional. La verdad extraño ese lugar de sushi pero se que solo te gustaba el arroz. La proxima vez que estemos en Laredo, pasamos por ahi.

You were so beautiful. So dignified. I always saw you like a princess taken hostage.. someone who forgot there was ever another way out. Maybe that's unfair. Maybe that's just how I made sense of it. Maybe, like Stockholm syndrome, you learned to love the cage because you had to?

I don't know if this was the life you would have chose or thee life you dreamed of when you were young. I just hope that somewhere in all of it, you found moments that made staying worth it. I hope you laughed more than I knew. I hope you felt loved, even when life made it hard.

You taught me so much without ever trying.. What to hold onto, and what to let go of. Maybe you never realized you were teaching me at all. Or maybe you did.. Maybe it was part of your design all along…

I'll never really know but what I do know is that I wouldn't be who I am without you.

I wish this was just another trip. One where you were coming to see me or packing up to go back home because at least then I'd know this goodbye wasn't forever. I'd know I'd get to see you again..

How could you leave me here like this mom? But the question that keeps breaking me is how could I have let you be so alone? I replay everything over and over wishing I had one more chance to be with you and tell you how much I love you.

I'm so grateful for my dogs. They've kept me going on the days I didn't think I could make it. They've been my comfort, my reason to get out of bed, and they've helped keep me sane. Se acerca un fin de semana largo y no puedo dejar de pensar en todo lo que se suponia que ibamos a hacer. Me movi para estar mas cerca de ti. Este iba a ser nuestro año y ahora ya no estas.

Lo mas que viajo, mas entiendo lo bonito de solo querer simplemente disfrutar el hotel 🤣 Recuerdo todas las veces que te obligaba salir a lugares nuevos conmigo.. pero no me arrepiento de nada. Solo me da mucha tristeza pensar en todos los lugares nuevos que ya no vamos a poder conocer juntas.

Estoy agradecida por todos los tiempos que pasamos juntas, incluso por esos momentos cuando queria mi propio espacio. Estoy aprendiendo a dejar a un lado la culpa porque esos sentimientos eran validos y no quitan el valor de todos los recuerdos que creamos juntas.

Uno de mis recuerdos favoritos es cuando jugabamos en las maquinitas. Siempre decias, "uno mas," y las dos sabiamos que nunca era solo uno mas. Pero se trataba de estar juntas y de reirnos y disfrutar nuestra compania.

Siempre pense que yo estaba bien sola... Pero ahora me doy cuenta de que nunca estuve realmente sola, porque te tenia a ti mom.

Siempre estuviste ahi para mi, y ahora que ya no estas, entiendo lo que de verdad significa estar sola.. Es raro pensar que por mucho tiempo quise ser independiente. Es solo que es bien diferente saber que ya no estas aqui y nunca te volvere a ver.

Yo se que sigues a mi lado, asi como siempre lo estuviste. Eres mi corazon y siempre estas conmigo, una presencia que espero nunca perder.

Yo se que dudabas de mi cuando te decia que te mirabas tan bonita. Pero quiero que sepas que lo decia de verdad y todavia te pienso asi. Siempre has sido hermosa para mi Mom.

Veo algunas de las fotos mas recientes tuyas y ahorra puedo ver cuanto habias envejecido… con todo respeto y amor… pero la verdad es que me sorprende porque mientras estabas aqui, yo nunca te vi asi. Tu siempre bromeabas y decias que era porque eras mi mama y porque te queria mucho… y tal vez tenias razon. Pero incluso ahora, no puedo dejar de pensar que eras una mamasita bien guapa 🤣

No puedo evitar sentirme agradecida de que los recuerdos que tengo de ti son la version mas bonita de ti. Pero tambien me duele porque es otro recordatorio de que no estuve ahi para ti al final, cuando mas importaba.

There’s something that’s been hurting me a lot lately mom, and it’s feeling like I’m slowly forgetting you. I can’t even really explain it, but some memories of you just don’t feel as clear anymore. Little details & moments or expressions.. simple things I used to remember so easily now feel like they’re slipping away from me.

Sometimes I replay videos of you thinking it’ll help me remember everything exactly the way it was, but even then I can’t anymore. My mind tries to fill in the blanks on its own, and that scares me because I don’t know what parts are real memories anymore and what parts I’m creating just to hold onto you.

It hurts so much to feel this way. I’m scared of forgetting your voice, your gestures and dances, the way you talked to me, or all the little things that made you you. I want to hold onto every part of you that I can, but sometimes it feels like my mind just can’t carry it all anymore

Hoy tuve mi primer incidente pequeno sin ti. Solo una llanta ponchada pero lo curioso es que mi reaccion inmediata fue llamarte. No porque pudieras hacer algo para arreglarlo, sino porque eso era lo que siempre hacia, incluso con las cosas mas simples.

Y luego me acorde.. Ya no hay nadie a quien llamar.

Termine haciendo lo que cualquier adulto haria.. llame al seguro para pedir asistencia. Llegaron rapido, cambiaron la llanta y ya voy camino a que la reparen. Realmente no fue gran cosa!

Pero aun asi no he dejado de pensar en ello.

No por la llanta, sino porque me hizo darme cuenta de cuantos momentos asi me esperan. Momentos en los que nada esta realmente mal, en los que no necesito ayuda y todo termina resolviendose bien, pero en los que mi primer impulso seguira siendo llamarte.

Tu siempre fuiste la persona con la que podia contar. A veces ni siquiera necesitabas decir nada. Bastaba con saber que estabas ahi, que si te llamaba ibas a contestar.

Creo que eso es lo que mas extraño. No tener a alguien que me resuelva los problemas, sino haber perdido a la persona a la que queria contarle las cosas.

Hoy fue una llanta ponchada. Mañana sera otra cosa. Un mal dia en el trabajo. Una buena noticia. Algo que me hizo reir. Un problema que se resolver por mi cuenta. Todos esos momentos que nunca parecian importantes hasta que dejaron de ser momentos que podia compartir contigo.

Simplemente duele mom.

Te extraño y desearia que estuvieras aqui. No porque necesite que me soluciones la vida, sino porque la vida se siente mucho mas sola sin la persona que siempre sabia que podia llamar.

Looking at the recordings now, the signs were all there mom. They were there in your face, in your voice, in the way your body looked, in the way you moved, and somehow I still didn’t see them. I hate myself for that. I was so distracted with my own problems, my own stress, my own stupid life that I couldn’t see the person I loved most in the world slowly fading right in front of me.

And now I can see it so clearly that it makes me sick to my stomach. Every video feels different now. Every memory feels poisoned because now I know what was really happening while I stood there blind to it. The ache in my chest gets worse every time I replay these moments because there is nothing I can do now except sit here and live with it.

I’m so sorry for getting upset with you for not eating. I understand now that you probably physically couldn’t anymore. And knowing that destroys me because instead of realizing how sick you were, I got frustrated. I keep replaying those moments in my head wishing I could go back and hold you instead, sit with you instead, take care of you better instead of assuming there would always be more time.

There is so much left unsaid between us that I feel like I’m suffocating under it. And the worst part is that writing to you doesn’t even help anymore because no matter how much I cry or beg or apologize, you are still gone. Nothing changes that. Nothing brings you back.

I feel trapped between sadness, anger, shame, regret, and disbelief. I don’t know what to do with any of it. I just carry it around until it crushes me at night when everything gets quiet and I’m left alone with my thoughts.

You weren’t supposed to die mom! You just weren’t. How could you be here my entire life and then suddenly not exist anymore? How could I talk to you one day and then never hear your voice again? How could the world just keep moving without you?? & how could you leave me here alone to figure out how to survive this without you?

No tengo nada bueno que decir ahorita mamii. Tengo mucho coraje y muchas cosas guardadas en el pecho y por eso mejor me quedo callada, porque dire algo que de todos modos no cambiara nada.

Solo espero que algun dia las personas enfrenten las consecuencias de lo que hicieron. Me duele pensar en todo lo que pasaste. 

Lo unico que me queda es extrañarte, recordarte y aprender a vivir con este vacio que dejaste

Tu no estabas bien mom, y eso es lo que mas me rompe por dentro. Como no pude verlo bien? Como no me di cuenta de lo enferma que estabas realmente? Sigo repasando todo en mi cabeza una y otra vez buscando señales, buscando momentos donde debi haber entendido que algo estaba mal

Y mientras tu estabas pasando por todo eso, yo tan preocupada por un maldito trabajo que al final no significa nada! Nada de eso importaba. Cambiaria todo, absolutamente todo, por haber tenido mas tiempo contigo o por haberte cuidado mejor. Me duele sentir que estaba tan distraida con cosas tan insignificantes mientras tu.. ni puedo decirlo

Gracias por siempre ser mi mejor apoyo. Incluso en mis etapas mas impulsivas, siempre estabas ahi para animarme o sacarme de los problemas que yo mismo causaba. No tenia miedo porque sabia que siempre me apoyabas y mis locusts. Creo que por eso ahora me siento tan insegura, perdida y sin direccion..

Solo queria darte las gracias por todo, porque todo lo que tengo es gracias a ti. Gracias por tus sacrificios y por tu amor. Espero que sepas cuanto significas para mi y cuanto siempre significaras

Me da cosa pensar que estoy olvidando partes de ti. Ya no recuerdo bien los detalles de tu cara, de tus manos… y hasta cuando veo una foto o un video tuyo, tu imagen se siente borrosa.. casi distorsionada… No se como poner esto en palabras. Creo que ni yo misma entiendo lo que estoy tratando de decir. Pero si se que siento tu ausencia todos los dias.

Como quisiera poder llamarte y contarte los detalles aburridos de mi dia. Tu me escuchabas, aunque a veces parecia que no estabas poniendo mucha atencion, pero aun asi yo me sentia escuchada. Tu tambien me contabas sobre tu dia y ahora odio no recordar esos pequeños detalles de tu rutina y de tu dia.

Escucharte en grabaciones o verte en videos no es suficiente. Ni siquiera se bien lo que estoy  ahorita.. Solo no puedo creer que de verdad ya no estes aqui. Literalmente no lo puedo creer. Siento que no lo estoy procesando o algo porque todavia sigo pensando que voy a volver a verte.

Y sabes, estoy un poquito molesta contigo porque todavia no me has jalado las patas. Siempre decias que si me encontrabas llorando despues de que murieras, ibas a venir a molestarme. Oh es por eso que no puedo dormir? por eso siento que me estoy perdiendo? este es tu modo de atormentarme? si es asi, no se como sentirme sobre eso…

Si de alguna manera estas ahi escuchandome mientras escribo esto.. me puedes dar una señal? Algo que me haga saber que estas bien?

Perdoname, mama. Voy a volver a fallarte. Simplemente no puedo hacerlo. No puedo fingir que todo esta bien. Lo intente de verdad, hice todo lo que pude, pero no tengo el corazon para continuar.

Me da lastima, y eso me hace sentir culpable, pero estamos bailando alrededor del otro y ya no quiero seguir haciendo eso.

Y creo que eso es lo que mas me duele. Porque dejar de venir tambien significa dejar de visitarte a ti. Apenas ha pasado un mes desde que te fuiste, y siento que todavia estoy tratando de entender como seguir adelante sin ti.

La verdad es que estaba cansada. Pero eso nunca significo que deje de amarte. Necesitaba espacio y ahora que lo tengo, todo lo que quiero es tenerte aqui.

Se sentia diferente cuando sabia que estabas solo una llamada o un corto viaje de distancia… siempre ahi si te necesitaba. Ahora te has ido, y no estaras regresando, y me cuesta aceptar el silencio donde antes estabas.

You have left an emptiness in me that I have been trying to fill and remembering your love and the moments we shared brings me such overwhelming sadness, but it also brings comfort. I am so grateful to have had a mom like you.

For everything said and left unsaid, I love you and always will. Even in my quietest days, know that I feel you and remember you and your love.

I’ve been going back to places we went together, trying to feel you again. I still can’t believe you’re gone. It’s in the most random moments that I think about you and just start to cry.

I’m trying to be strong, but it’s so hard being here without you. I really thought we had more time!

There’s this ache in me I thought would go away if I came to see you, but it didn’t. It’s still here. The tight feeling in my chest won’t go away & I don’t know what to do with it. It feels like I have nothing to hold onto anymore.

I got some news today & almost called you without even thinking... like I still could. I miss you so much. Nothing really helps.. it just stays there... I just want to see you, hug you & hold your hand.

I didn’t realize how difficult it would be to be here at the house without you. Everything feels so… strange & unfamiliar. I feel so lost right now. I’m doing my best to stay strong, but it’s hard. I truly thought we had more time together.

I’ve been staying busy these past few days. I know it’s going to catch up to me & I know what’s coming, but I can’t help it. Any quiet moment or any time I’m alone, my thoughts drift back to you or to a memory we shared…

I feel so tired, but not even sleep lets me escape.

I bought Derek a new pair of boots today. When I saw them, I thought of you right away. I think you would’ve liked them too... I haven’t forgotten my promise. I know how much he meant to you. You loved all your grandkids so much, but he had a special place in your heart.

I’ll keep looking out for him & support him the way you did for me & the way I know you would’ve wanted me to.

I think of you in little moments like today. I miss you so much mom. I love you ❤️‍🩹

I just saw a video about how the body knows when it's dying & it made me think of you in our last days together. Did your body know what was happening before any of us understood it?

I am reframing our last moments as a blessing in disguise because I know you were able to reconnect, or at least have someone you had not spoken to in a long time with you again. Whatever was or was not said, I hope that brought you peace, or brings you peace now.

I am almost grateful that I have nothing but the best memories of you. Maybe I am just selfish like that because even though your last weeks were tough and painful, I did not witness that. Just a bit of it. I would have hated to have my memory of you changed by that.

For whatever happened the way it did, I am grateful.

Te extraño nena

Esta es la última vez que te vi en persona. No guardo los mejores recuerdos de nuestros últimos momentos juntos, y no creo que jamás logre perdonarme por ello. Nunca te lo habría admitido tan abiertamente, pero estaba cansada y sentí alivio cuando te fuiste este dia. Creí que estaba haciendo lo mejor para mi al dejarte ir, sin saber que sería la última vez que te vería. Me consume por dentro saber que así fue como nos vimos por última vez. Pero sé que me amabas profundamente, y quiero que sepas cuánto te amo yo también, y cuánto te sigo amando. Rezaré por ti cada noche, con la esperanza de que seas feliz y te encuentres en un lugar mejor. No me esperes, pero ten la certeza de que yo estoy deseando verte, abrazarte y besarte de nuevo. Me siento tan perdida y sola sin ti, pero estaré bien. Estaré bien gracias a ti y todo lo que hiciste y has hecho por mi.

Estoy tan agradecida por cada sacrificio que hiciste, cada enseñanza que me diste, cada risa, cada abrazo, cada momento, incluso los más pequeños que en su momento parecían simples, pero que ahora lo significan todo. Esos son los recuerdos que llevaré conmigo por el resto de mi vida.

Espero que supieras lo especial que era eso, lo especial que eres tú. Espero que supieras lo profundamente amada que eras, no solo por mí, sino por todos los que tuvieron la bendición de conocerte.
