Alan Boedeker, 67, of Bryan unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023. He passed while doing something he loved: proudly working alongside fellow scouts during an Order of the Arrow event for which he was unanimously nominated.
Alan was born on May 8, 1956 in Hearne, Texas to Roland and Beverly Boedeker and was the sixth of seven children. He graduated from Bryan High (’74) and earned a Mechanical Engineering associate degree from TSTC in Waco. He worked for Beard Pump service before starting a metal fabrication business, MetaFab, with his father and brother David. He then worked for Rik-Mar Fabricators for several years before starting his own business, Service Tech, in 1985, specializing in water purification.
In March 1994, while installing a water purification system in a Texas A&M Biology lab, he met Amy Loeffler and knew she was “the one.” Alan and Amy were married on March 23, 1996 and together they built their home and raised their two sons in Bryan.
Alan loved working with his hands, building and repairing almost anything. You could always find him happily tinkering in his workshop. After retiring his business in August 2021, Alan finally had the extra time to pursue his retirement plans of fabricating glider swings and kinetic wind spinners.
Alan passed on his mechanical skills and knowledge to his sons. With Alan’s guidance, Henry successfully welded a garden gate and led the fence construction for his Eagle Scout project for Bryan Collegiate High School. Alan and Kyle spent many hours together working on Kyle’s ’97 Mazda Miata.
Alan was passionate about volunteering with his son’s Boy Scouts of America troop and was a valued member. He loved working hard and sharing his knowledge with the troop. Alan got involved with the scouts in 2010 when his son Henry became a Cub Scout. Alan continued volunteering with Henry’s troop long after Henry became an Eagle Scout and had graduated from high school. He was an excellent role model for the scouts in Troop 1861, and served many leadership roles. He was always eager to help the troop with projects, both large and small.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Beverly Boedeker of Concan, his brother David Boedeker of Houston, and his sister Mary Boedeker of Uvalde.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Amy, and their two sons, Kyle and Henry. His siblings, Tom Boedeker and wife Tanya of Soldotna (Alaska), Nancy and her husband Bill Prihoda of Conroe, Vivian and her husband Keith Land of Wimberley, and Leah Boedeker and her husband John Sizemore of Spring, sister-in-law Mary Gay Boedeker and many, many good friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org), the Boy Scouts of America Troop 1861 (email: [email protected]), or to Abandoned Animal Rescue (www.aartexas.org).
