Anita was never one to hold back her thoughts, and those who knew her loved her all the more for it. She was bold, feisty, and full of life — a woman who spoke her mind and stood her ground.
She eventually made her home in Bryan, Texas, where she met the love her life James B Fickey, and raised four sons. She retired from the Geology Department at Texas A&M University in early 1996 and traveled throughout the United States, Alaska, Canada and Mexico. Anita is preceded in death by her parents Stilman and Meryl Sims, sister Patsy Vaughn, and her beloved husband of 67 years James, and two sons Mark and Paul.
She is survived by a brother, Eugene Sims; and her sons, James and wife Cheryl, David and wife Jamie; six grandchildren, Paul Jr, Kail, Christopher, Jamie Lynn, Scott and J’Nell; and seven great-grandchildren, plus numerous nieces and nephews — each of whom carries a piece of her fiery spirit forward.
Anita’s presence was unforgettable, her love unwavering, and her legacy enduring. She will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered.
