Barbara McCannon

A funeral service will take place at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 1200 Foxfire Dr, College Station, TX, on April 29, 2026, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at College Station City Cemetery, 2530 Texas Ave S, College Station, TX.

Barbara was born September 11, 1948 in Houston, TX, the daughter of Elwyn Frederich Gummelt and Mattie Pearl Fegette. She attended A&M Consolidated High School in College Station, TX, graduating in 1966. She married David Lee McCannon in 1967 in Bryan, Texas. David and Barbara had four sons, and were married for 42 years until his death in 2009.

Barbara, or “Susie”, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, enjoyed raising her four boys, traveling with her husband David in their RV, antiquing, gardening, listening to music, playing cards with friends, visiting with her siblings/family, spending time with her church families, decorating her house for holidays, and probably most of all, being a grandmother. She probably set a record for attending the most little league, soccer games, track/cross country meets, football games and other “kids” activities over the years with her sons and grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, David McCannon.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Shelley McCannon of Lakeway, Steve and Shannon McCannon of Marble Falls, Kyle and Sarah McCannon of Bastrop, Collin and Jeana McCannon of College Station; brothers and sister-in-law, Jim Gummelt of Kingwood, Bill and Jessica Gummelt of Stewartville, MO; sister, Mary Beth White of Bastrop; grandchildren, Haley, Beau, Hays, Anne Claire, Sophie, Juliette, Brady and Darren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
