

On Saturday, January 23, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, visitation will begin at 9:00 am followed by rosary service at 9:30 am and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bettie was born September 3, 1919 in Burleson County to Joseph F. and Elizabeth T. (Pivonka) Beran. At a young age, she was inspired to be a nurse after seeing her paternal grandmother, a midwife, bring new life into the world. After graduating from Caldwell High School in 1938, Bettie earned a degree from Providence Nursing School in Waco. She proudly served her country as a Registered Nurse during WWII in the U.S. Navy. Bettie married Robert R. Marek on April 23, 1946. While raising her family, she continued her nursing career and eventually retired with over 50 years of service.
Bettie enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning vegetables and polka dancing with Robert. She was a longtime member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Altar Society, Rosary Society, and SPJST #39. She and Robert were members of the Polka Lovers Club of America.
Bettie is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert R. Marek; four sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by sons; Robert Marek Jr. and Thomas Marek; daughter, Barbara Provazek; sisters, Josephine Felcman, Vlasta Ofczarzak, Janie Vavra; brother, Ernest Beran; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
