

Bruce was born February 20, 1923 in rural Anderson County, Texas near Salmon, Texas to Ruth Naomi Salmon and Bruce W. Morehead, Sr. The oldest of three sons, Bruce grew up working the family farm in the cotton fields where he weighed cotton, and graded watermelons, along with his dad and two brothers, the late Bruce W. Morehead, Leonard E. Morehead, and Calvin L. Morehead.
Bruce graduated from Elkhart High School in 1941, and soon moved to San Antonio, Texas to live with his sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Francis Kimmell. He soon found a job at Fort Sam Houston as a clerk typist in the Records Department. While at Fort Sam Houston, Bruce met and dated his future wife Mary Allene Mazurek, R.N. In 1941-1942, Bruce enrolled in Radio Communications School in Oklahoma. On January 29, 1943, Bruce enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp, had Basic Training at Paris Island, South Carolina, and was stationed at San Diego, California until he went to the South Pacific to set up communication operations on Okinawa and several other U.S. held islands.
After the war, Bruce completed his tour of duty in China. On April 9, 1946, Bruce was shipped back to the United States and found and married the love of his life, Mary Allene Mazurek on August 18, 1946, who was still working as a nurse in San Antonio. Bruce and Mary moved to Bryan and co-founded ACME Glass Company with his brother Leonard E. Morehead where he worked for 39 years until his retirement in 1985. Bruce and Mary traveled America for many years, taking cruises to Alaska and Hawaii, and trips to East Texas and the Hill Country.
Bruce spent a lot of retirement years working on his cattle ranch in Tabor, or working on projects for the Bryan Kiwanis Pan Cake Suppers, Twin City Mission, Meals on Wheels, American Legion Post 159, or First United Methodist Church in Bryan. Bruce was a charter member of the Bryan Kiwanis (1953) Past-President (1985-1988), Past-President of the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce (1961-1963) and (1974-1976), Past Board of Director of the Better Business Bureau, as well as a Board of Director of the Twin City Mission (1987-1988). Along with his friend and fellow Kiwanian, the late Perry Sherry, Bruce delivered daily meals for 15 years for the Meals on Wheels program. Bruce was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Men’s Bible Class for 60 years. Bruce’s name along with his wife Mary’s can be found on the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial Wall.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leonard and Calvin Morehead; sisters, Louise Kimmell and Zona Mae Steadman, and his wife Mary Allene Morehead.
He is survived by his three children, Darlynne Beard and husband Jim, Bruce W. Morehead III and wife Christina, and Brian H. Morehead, all of Bryan; three grandchildren, Dr. Michelle Beard Hogan and husband Ken Hogan, Blanton Beard, and Mary Ann Morehead; three step-grandchildren Richard Lankford and wife Thersa of Virginia, Joe Lankford and wife Heather of Forney, Texas, and Crystal Renfro of San Diego, California; four great-grandchildren, Olivia and Juliette Hogan of Houston, and Alysha Lankford of Virgina and Aiden Lankford of Forney, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
