
A Mass of Christian Burial for Cecilia Zak Prihoda, 91, of Bryan, will be held at 10 A.M. Monday, August 22, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Monsignor John McCaffrey and Reverend Tom Hanus officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5 to 8 P.M. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan, with a Rosary being recited at 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Mrs. Prihoda passed away Thursday afternoon, August 18, 2011 at St. Joseph Manor in Bryan.
Cecilia was born in Brazos County on March 9, 1920 to John and Mary Luza Zak. She graduated from Bryan High School. During World War II, Cecilia joined the U.S. Army Air Force and served her country for three years obtaining the rank of Sergeant. She attended and graduated from Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, Iowa before returning to Bryan. Cecilia married the love of her life John Prihoda in 1948.
She is a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the St. Elizabeth’s KJZT Society, the Ladies Guild, the Rosary Society, the Age Manager’s Group, the Gold Medallion and Senior Friends Groups, the American Legion Earl Graham Post 159, and the VFW Brazos County Post 4692. She retired from Texas A&M Student Publications after 31 years of dedicated service.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband; one brother, John Zak; and two sisters, Mary Hanus and Angelina Zak.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, John Prihoda of Bryan, and Bill and Nancy Prihoda of The Woodlands; eight Grandchildren, Neeley Prihoda, Stephanie Trocko, Jesse Prihoda and his wife Holly, Erin Prihoda, Lindsey Mallory and her husband Robby, Justin Prihoda, Zak Prihoda, and Jordan Prihoda; eight Great-grandchildren, J.G., Samantha, and Tanner Evans, Travis and Kevin Trocko, Colton Mallory, and Presley and Colt Prihoda; nephew Rev. Tom Hanus and; numerous family and friends.
