
Frederick David “Butch” Phipps, 74, of Bryan, passed away Monday morning at Brazos Valley Hospice Inpatient Facility in Bryan. Graveside Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Bryan City Cemetery in Bryan with Reverend Ryan Higdon of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.
Butch was born August 20, 1940 in Bryan, Texas to Virgil and Evelyn Kohler Phipps. He went to St. Joseph School through the eighth grade and graduated from Stephen F. Austin Hugh School in Bryan. He completed Apprenticeship Training School in Houston, Texas in December 1966. He was a Journeyman Plumber and worked for various Construction Companies for over 25 years. He was a member of U. A. Plumbers Local Union #68. He left construction and went to work for Bryan ISD maintenance for 18 years.
Butch met Patsy Plant on a blind date in March 1964 and they were married on November 7, 1964 by Father Tim Valenta of St. Joseph Catholic Church. They were blessed with one son, Mickey. Butch loved all sports. When he was younger he was involved in Bowling and Coaching Little League - but he especially loved being at the Lake, and boating and fishing with Mickey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bernie Phipps, and two brothers-in-law.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Patsy Plant Phipps; his son, Michael D. “Mickey” Phipps; nephew, Kevin Phipps; sister-in-law, Evelyn Plant; two special nieces, Connie Mantey and husband Ricky, and Benda Hayes and partner Mark Davidson; and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
