

Kay Martin was born in Elmo, Texas to Vida and Seth Walton on December 22, 1922. A graduate of Baylor University 1945, she married Dr. Everett C. Martin, Jr. of Bryan. They settled in Cherokee County beginning his veterinarian practice and family. They were there for over 50 years until they returned to Bryan in 2003.
Kay was a founding member of Beall Chapel Baptist Church in Jacksonville. She then continued to serve faithfully as they moved to First Baptist Church, Rusk. During that time Kay served as the director of many Baptist Girl’s Auxiliary functions within those churches and many positions in Cherokee Baptist Association. This included many years of directing girls camps for the church and association at Pineywoods Baptist Encampment in Woodlake, TX. Later on she was instrumental in planning and constructing the Skyview-Hodge Family Visitor’s Center at the TDJC correction facility in Rusk, ministering to numerous families needing assistance in visiting their incarcerated loved ones. She continued to serve through Restorative Justice Ministries in Rusk and Bryan and was active in Christian Women’s Job Corp. In her love for young people and education she also served on the Board of Trustees for East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, TX.
After her husband’s retirement Kay served as a Southern Baptist mission volunteer for a year in Ethiopia and 6 months in China, teaching English as a second language. She spent many times in various jail ministries sharing her time and heart with women there. Her love of her Savior was so deep that she would even want to speak to you from that you might come, too!
She is survived by Everett C Martin, Jr. , her husband of 67 years, and three children, Wm.Terry and Bettye Martin, of Bryan, Everett C. and Kathy Martin, III of Whittier, CA and Andrew Gene and Kathy Jane Martin Trimble, of Waco; grandchildren, Jake and Kathryn Aeline Layman, Rebecca Lee Martin, Joseph and Angeles Martin, Cliff Martin, Carissa Martin, Meagan Blevins, Sarah Trimble, and Melodie Trimble, and five wonderful great grandchildren and numerous extended family members and friends like you reading this.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother in law Mary Jane and Jim Doyal, her brothers and their wives Bill and Francis Walton; Seth and Vera Walton, her in laws Everett C. and Winnie Dell Martin, Sr., her dear friends and sister in law Nelwyn and John Raborn, not to mention the many folks that befriended them along in her life and ministries.
Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wednesday, December 30th in Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Funeral services will be 11am Thursday, December 31, 2015 at First Baptist Church Bryan. Graveside immediately following at Bryan City Cemetary
