On Monday, February 19, 2024, Janice Pauline Dannen Thompson, age 79, left her earthly body behind and went to be with the Lord. Her one wish was that she would die peacefully in her sleep, next to her beloved husband of 57 years, Larry Thompson. She got her wish, but her family is heartbroken.
Jan was born in a tiny town in central Minnesota and grew up on a family farm. That connection with the land never left her, even as she traveled the world with her family. Jan and Larry lived the last 24 years of her life on the land they love in the log home they built together. She gardened, canned pickles and pears, made quilts, and baked bread. She could sew almost anything and did intricate needle work in her spare time. Her house is filled with the results of her labor: quilts, needlepoint, homemade pickles, and crafts. Her love of dogs knew no end.
She loved community theater and acted in many plays with Troupe Over the Hill. She also put her sewing skills to good use and made many costumes over the years. She didn’t sing, but she enjoyed the many musical productions Larry helped to produce.
Jan is preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Alveen (Bud) Dannen, and her brother, Keith Dannen.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Thompson; her children, Pam Thompson and Mike Thompson (Deyna); her brothers and their wives, Merit Dannen (Verree) and Darrell Dannen (Diane); her grandchildren, Rachel Thompson and Laura Thompson; and many members of her extended family.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, March 1, 2024 at Faith Bible Church, 1282 FM 2776, Bryan, Texas 77808.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice in Jan’s name.
