

Jimmie G. Welch, 87, beloved husband of Sylvia Welch, passed away at his home in College Station, Tuesday, December 21, 2010. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, December 26, 2010 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, December 27th at the Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Burkhalter officiating.. Burial will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.
Jimmie was a life long resident of Bryan, Texas and a member of the Free Will Baptist Church of Bryan where he served as a Trustee for many years.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle Welch, parents, Jim G. Welch and Marie Gilmore Welch, sister Gladys Shirley and her husband Frank Shirley.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sylvia Utsey Welch of College Station; his two sons and their spouses, Jim G. Welch, III and Sherri, and Scott Welch and Diane of Bryan/College Station; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Mindi and Chris Spears, Brandon and Stacey Welch, Marla Harris, Jarrod, Matt, and Madison Welch, Dawn and Brad Bowers, Dana and Todd Kay, and Dusty Smith; eight great-grandchildren, Tayler, Parker, and Walker Spears, Braydon and Carson G. Welch, Jace, Shane, and Chance Harris, Rylee and Allison Bowers, and Chaney and Charli Kay.
Jimmie voluntarily joined the United States Navy when he was only seventeen years old. He was on board the USS Tennessee, which was stationed at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He served in the North and South Pacific during World War II. After his return to Bryan, Jimmie became an electrician and worked as a foreman and superintendent for the W.E. Kutzschbach Company for 29 years. In 1974, he opened his own electrical contractor shop, Welch Electrical Contracting, and retired in 1986. He was a member of the IBEW Local Union 716.
Jimmie loved his family and enjoyed hunting with his sons and his hunting buddies where he enjoyed many serious domino games. His family will sorely miss him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Marcel Lechin and BCS Heart, the College Station Medical Center, and Traditions Hospice for their love and care of Jimmie.
