

John K. Dowling, 72, passed away Monday at his home in Cross. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 4 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with Bro. Bobby Slaydon officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. John K. was born August 4, 1938 in Bryan to William Lee and Iva Grace (Kellett) Dowling. After graduation from Stephen F. Austin High School, he held various law enforcement and customer care positions. He married the love of his life, Doris Marie Lee on December 15, 1961. His favorite post-retirement job was driving a school bus for the kids in his community. John K. was a long time member of Northview Baptist Church in Bryan. John K. is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Grace Dowling, and nephews, William Glenn Dowling and David Patterson. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Doris (Lee) Dowling of Cross; sister and brother-in-law, Meribeth and Wilburn Patterson of Hilltop Lakes; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Kay Dowling of Bryan; mother-in-law, Tula Marie (Taylor) Lee of Cross; son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Kay Dowling of Bryan; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Christopher Simons of Cross; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Cheryl Dowling of Cross; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Diane Lee of Amarillo, Kenneth and Ann Lee of Singleton; his beloved grandchildren, Justin Young and wife Megan, Ashley Shupak and husband Curtis, Megan Simons and her fiancé Chad Russ, William Kellett and Alexander Lee Dowling; three great-grandchildren; close family friend and caregiver, Joni Mayes of College Station; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
