

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 1 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Interment will follow at College Station Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm Monday at the funeral home.
John originally moved to College Station to attend Texas A&M University and stayed as a lover of Aggieland. While John did not follow most sports he always tuned in when the Aggies were playing. During his time at TAMU he was a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. He graduated Texas A&M in 1974 with a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Economics. While attending TAMU he met and married his wife, Cheryl who also attended TAMU.
John was a longtime industrial salesman. His infectious smile and ability to talk to anyone was a great asset. He was a broker in 1976 and returned to real estate at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services after leaving sales. John was a strong advocate of the shooting sports, serving as a volunteer for the NRA and NRA Foundation. He was involved with the Brazos County Friends of NRA for over 20 years. He was committee chair and Texas South Grant Delegate for 16 years. He instilled a love of shooting sports in many, especially his grandchildren.
John will be remembered for his ready smile, great stories and ability to share his joy with life with anyone he met. He regularly was sharing an email for a morning smile, or pictures of the day’s sunrise. He was always up before the sun and enjoyed his morning coffee. John was always willing to invest his time where needed, he volunteered with the Republican committee both locally and state wide. He attended multiple Republican conventions.
John is preceded in death by his parents; his sister; and wife, Cheryl Kay Lilly who passed away January 9, 1994.
He is survived by his daughters, Beverly South and husband Brad, their two children Nathan and Madeline, Tina Lilly and her children Ryan and Matthew.
