Joyce Weedon

Joyce Weedon, 84, passed away Monday, September 29, 2014 at her home in Bryan. Visitation will be Thursday, October 2nd from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 3, 2014 at the funeral home, with Reverend John Eastman officiating. Interment will follow at Steep Hollow Cemetery in the Steep Hollow Community.

Joyce was born August 4, 1930 to Fred and Lessie Rutherford Keeling. She was a longtime resident of Bryan, Texas. Joyce was active in community and civic organizations. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bryan, Texas, served on the board of the March of Dimes, was on the Briarcrest Ladies board, and director of The Girls Club. She was a formidable bridge player and golfer and was quite the entrepreneur buying and building homes for rent on their property on Hardy Weedon Road in Brazos County, Texas. In her last years at Watercrest she lived life to the fullest and motivated her friends there to do the same.

Joyce and Travis were married December 13, 1952. They were married for 50 years before he died November 7, 2002. They had one child, Teresa Ann Sykes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Travis Weedon; brother, Leonard Keeling; brother-in-law Jack Graham; niece Karen Joyce Stalcup; and nephew Jon Kerwyn Murray.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Ann Sykes of Bryan, Texas; two grandchildren, Clint Sykes and wife Amy of Georgetown and Kristi Harvey and husband Zach of Dallas, Texas; three great-grandchildren Kynsley Paige Sykes, Beckham Travis Sykes, and Preston Hadden Harvey; and two sisters, Ann Graham of Bellville, Texas and Ruby Goodson and husband Bob of San Antonio, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Clint Sykes, Zach Harvey, Bob Goodson, Jimmy Weedon, John Graham and Lloyd Graham.

The family extends thanks to the staff of Watercrest in Bryan, Family Home Hospice and caregiver Mary Sanders who were so loving and helpful in caring for our loved one.
