Marye Elizabeth Barrett, 86, of Bryan went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 28, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Marye was born on March 25, 1929 in Bryan, Texas to W.G. Henderson and Maggie Akin Henderson. She was married to Delvin Royce Barrett, who preceded her in death in 2001 after 50 years of marriage. Also preceding her in death were her parents and her son, David Alan Barrett.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 3 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 4, 2016, at 10:00 at First United Methodist Church in Bryan, with interment to follow at Bryan City Cemetery.
Marye was first and foremost a homemaker, who was undyingly devoted to her husband and to her three sons. She was active in the Bryan community and was a longtime member of First Methodist Church in Bryan. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, and loved to collect artifacts from the places they visited. She loved to entertain, to cook (at all hours of the night), and she had an innate ability to make everyone in her presence laugh. One only had to enter a room to know if she was present, as her infectious laugh could be heard throughout. Marye was a huge personality that made everyone in her presence feel good. She spent her entire life doing what she loved most, and that was caring for her family.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Trisha Barrett of Bryan and Brian and Jeannie Barrett of College Station; grandchildren, Tess Barrett Wall, Scott Barrett and wife Lori, Allison Barrett Wilson and husband, Matthew, Kyle Barrett and wife Irene, Lindsey Barrett Mudge and husband Chris; great-grandchildren, Cade Wall, Drake, Graham and Libby Barrett, Barrett, Parker and Payton Wilson, and Jordan and Taylor Mudge.
We would especially like to thank a team of people that helped take care of Mom, some for the better part of 6 years: Kathy Kmiec, Richard Kmiec, Connie Blanco, Carolyn, Santa Perez and Krystal Leon for the loving and compassionate care they provided over the last six years. The stories you can tell …
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials of giving be kindly made to the Brazos Valley Food Bank, Scotty’s House, or Habitat for Humanity in her memory.
