Olga Moncivais Cortinas went peacefully to be with her Lord and savior on the early morning of Wednesday, March 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old and left this life with the grace and steady warmth that marked every day she lived.
Olga was born on May 6, 1937, in Bryan, Texas, to Emilio Galindo Moncivais and Juanita Amaya Moncivais. From Olga’s earliest years she was, by her own admission, a daddy’s girl all the way. She learned to work with her hands beside him, and those lessons shaped a practical kindness that became her trademark. Work trips with her father became stories she would tell for years. A proud graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School in 1956, she carried the curiosity and work ethic of her youth into every role she embraced.
On September 2, 1961, Olga married her sweetheart, Oscar Cortinas Sr., and together they built a life full of devotion and love. The couple welcomed their one and only son, Oscar "Oppie" Cortinas Jr., who remained the light of her life. Family was Olga's first and truest calling: wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Olga began her working life as an office receptionist for a local doctor in Bryan, where her calm voice and attentive manner put patients at ease. For many years she also helped in the family business, offering steady hands and practical wisdom. When she wasn't behind a desk, she was behind a stove—whipping up meals that drew the family together and filling holiday tables with an array of cookies, breads, and cakes she lovingly baked to share.
She poured her heart into her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She loved simple pleasures: sitting on her porch watching birds and naming them as they flew by, tending a garden where everything she planted seemed to flourish under her care, and greeting each new day with faith. Olga had the best green thumb around, and her home was a testament to a woman who believed in nurturing life. Above all, she had a deep love for Jesus that grounded her and guided the kindness she gave so freely.
Olga's legacy is one of love, generosity, and faith. She is survived by her son Oscar "Oppie" Cortinas Jr., (Annette), her grandchildren Megan Medina, (T.J.), Zachary Cortinas, (Diana) her great-grandchildren Aubree Medina, Isaac Cortinas, and Lillian Cortinas, her brother Emilio Moncivais (Judy), and her numerous nephews and their families, and countless friends who became family. Olga is preceded in death by her Husband Oscar M Cortinas Sr., her parents Emilio Galindo Moncivais, Juanita Amaya Moncivais, sisters Lillian McFadden, Beatrice Costanza, nieces Sharon McFadden, Karen Eldenburg, and Nephew Danny McFadden. In remembering Olga, we celebrate a life well-lived and a heart that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A celebration of Olga’s life is scheduled for Thursday, March 19, 2026, visitation 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am at Memorial Funeral Chapel 1515 South College Ave. Bryan, Texas 77801. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery 1111 N Texas Ave, Bryan, Texas 77803.
The Family would like to thank Peggy Elizardo, Alma Hernandez, and Carla Woolley. For their time, compassion, support and love for Olga. We are also incredibly grateful for Concho Hearts Hospice for their exemplary care, compassion and love for Olga and our family.
