Santos Ortiz Acosta

Santos was born on December 28, 1932 in Cuero, TX. She came to know the meaning of life, love and family at a young age. In 1952, at the age of 19, she married Gavino P. Acosta Sr. and together they happily raised eight children. Throughout her life she also helped to raise many nieces and nephews. Later in life she cared for many children of all ages, and in doing so they became her family. She was known to many as “Mom” and “Grandma Santos” because of her truthful and caring nature. Her door was always open.

She had a lifelong faith in God and was a member of La Primera Iglesia Bautista in Bryan and La Primera Iglesia Bautista in Cameron. She shared her strong faith with her husband and they instilled the same faith in their children and grandchildren. She made a lasting impression on all those that knew her; to know her was to love her.

Santos was preceded in death by her beloved husband of many years, Gavino P. Acosta Sr; brothers and sisters; grandson, Roy Reyes; and son -in-law, Jesse (Stump) Castillo Jr. of Bryan.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Robert and Delores Acosta of Cameron, Gavino (Yogi)Acosta Jr, Richard and Connie Rosas, Annette Acosta, Sam and Barbara Acosta, Eugene Acosta, Roy and MaryJane Acosta, Simon and Christina Acosta, all of Bryan; and numerous grandchildren, great and great- great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan Friday from 5 – 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. The funeral service will be at Memorial Funeral Chapel at 11 am on Saturday follow by burial at the Bryan City Cemetery.
