Sat was born on June 19, 1947, to Natalia Alfaro Carpio and Esteban Carpio and was a lifelong resident of Bryan, TX. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School, Class of ’66.
As a young man, he served our Country in the Vietnam War. During a mission, he was wounded and like many Veterans of that generation, he carried that experience quietly with strength and humility. Decades later, when he finally received his Purple Heart, his Hometown honored him in a way that showed just how proud people were of his Service and his sacrifice. It was a long overdue recognition for a man who never asked for attention but deserved every bit of it.
After returning home and recovering, he went to Engineering school and built a long career with GTE. He was the kind of worker every company hopes for – reliable, dedicated, proud of doing things the right way. He worked hard so his family would never go without.
But his Career and Military Service were only part of his story.
For over 30 Years, he coached Little League Baseball. That means he helped shape the lives of countless kids in our community. To them he was more than a Coach, he was a mentor, a teacher and someone who believed in them. He Loved the Game and he Loved sharing it with others.
Even after his Coaching days, Baseball was still a part of who he was. He would spend his Weekends playing on teams with the Cardinals, Azteca’s, and the Lulac, these were a group of guys who loved the game as much as he did. Afterwards, they would come back to his house on West 24th Street, fire up the grill, pop open a beer and talk about the game. Those moments, full of laughter and friendship, were some of the simple joys he treasured the most.
He had a way of connecting with People that made everyone feel welcome. The phrase people use repeatedly is that he “never met a stranger.” Whether it was a friend, a neighbor, a teammate, or someone he had just met, he treated everyone with kindness and respect. That’s why people speak so highly of him.
But family was the most important thing to him, and he will be greatly missed by his son, Steve Carpio. His daughters, Melissa Carpio, Christina Garcia (Paul) and Natalie Garcia (Albert II).
His Grandchildren, Stevie Reyes, Josh Carpio, Salvador Rios II, Adri Rios Bosquez (Jeremy), Justin Garcia (Mercedes), Elyssia Scifres (Andrew), Kayli Garcia (Matt), Dre Vazquez (Stefania), Albert Garcia III, and Lorin Vazquez.
His Great-Grandchildren, Blakely Reyes, Chandler Reyes, Dash Garcia, Jett Garcia, Blaise Garcia, Emrie Scifres, Tessa Scifres, Theo Scifres, Kenlie Franco, Kobe Williams, Kyla Castilleja, and Kyson Castilleja.
His Brother, Aureliano “AC’ Carpio. His Sisters Mary Galindo Ramirez (Pete) and Mary Lou Adame.
The mother of his children, Viola Garcia Milazzo.
So many devoted Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.
And Special Neighbors, Margie Neveu, Jesse Saragosa, Stella and Louis Garcia.
Sat was preceded in death by his Parents, and his sister, Susie Gongora.
We are proud to be his family, and we will always be grateful for the life he lived and the love he gave us.
His life reminds us that that a legacy isn’t built by one single achievement. It’s built through everyday actions, showing up, working hard, helping others, loving your family and leaving people better than you found them. His legacy lives in the values he passed down to us, resilience, loyalty, generosity, and love for his family.
We will remember him in the stories we tell, the lessons he taught us, and in the way we try to live our own lives. The best way we can honor him is by carrying these values forward and sharing them with generations that come after us.
His Story will always be a part of Ours.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Grace Akinyi-Joseph, MD and the entire Medical Team at Baylor Scott & White Cancer Center-College Station for their exceptional care, kindness, and support during the most difficult times. Your compassion will never be forgotten. His Medical Team became his friends, and he loved to joke with them and talk Sports. We are also profoundly thankful to Visiting Angels of Brazos Valley, Ashley Vidaure and Lakesha Hodrick, he cared for you both dearly.
