

Tom graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University and Sam Houston State University, where he earned his master’s degree in Special Education.
He was a teacher for over thirty years and retired from Mary Branch Elementary School in Bryan. After retirement, and after many years of visiting friends in San Marcos, Tom moved to San Marcos where he became an active part of the community and was one of the founding members of the Krewe of Okeanos. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and being with friends and family. He loved the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and worked many summers during and after college at Grand Lake Lodge.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and brothers George Bond and Morris Burkhalter. He is survived by his brothers, Searcy Bond of Midway, TX and Steven Burkhalter of Bryan, TX; sisters, Ann Nichols of Bryan, TX, Carolyn Ashmore of Lone Oak, TX and Delores Slaydon of Hilltop Lakes, TX; and close friend and life-long companion, Wayne Kraemer of San Marcos.
Visitation will be 5:30 P.M. – 7:30 P.M. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, November 17 at Memorial Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends of the San Marcos Public Library or the American Cancer Society.
