Anne Hamilton Mays, born Muriel Lucretia Hamilton on July 1, 1927 in Long Beach, CA to John and Marion (Free) Hamilton, passed away July 11, 2010 at home at Sunridge Village in Bullhead City, AZ after courageously battling serious health issues for four years. She is survived by her devoted sons Norman (Judy) Franz and James (Leslie) Franz and daughter MaryAnne Russo, who provided constant care and companionship to her mother during those years. Predeceased by her sisters Jean Bustos and Evelyn Hill, she is also survived by her sister Norma Clairmont, grandsons Jason (Courtney) and Sean Franz and Larry and Daniel Russo and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. A remarkably witty, smart, independent woman, Anne supported herself and her children as a waitress, bartender, business owner and entrepreneur. A long-time resident of the San Gabriel Valley, she moved to the northwest in the mid 1980 and famously built the largest house in Goldendale, Washington. She was athletic, excelling at softball and waterskiing, and was an avid fan of many sports, including her father’s favorite, thoroughbred horseracing. Accomplishments aside, family was everything to Anne. She was so proud of her bridge-building father, relished hearing about the academic and career successes of her children and grandchildren and other family members, and was the first to lend a hand or a shoulder when life’s temporary troubles came along. As one of the four vivacious Hamilton sisters, she loved a party and loved to laugh! She kept her sense of humor, keen memory and ability “to name that tune in three notes” to the end, as her family, hospice workers and the staff at Sunridge Village can attest. A celebration of Anne’s life will be held on Friday, September 17, at 12 noon at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier (enter at gate 17). A graveside gathering will be followed by a luncheon for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Anne's memory to CHA Foundation, c/o Hospice Compassus, 1225 Hancock Rd., Suite 200, Bullhead City, AZ 86442. To donate on-line, visit CHAfoundation.org. (in the purpose field, enter "To Hospice Compassus, Bullhead City in memory of Anne Mays"). Hospice Compassus of Bullhead City provided loving comfort to Anne in her last months, for which the family is forever grateful.
