He was on fishing excursion at his favorite lake, Irvine Lake, in Silverado, California.
Gabriel was born on September 1st 1946 in Mexico City to Gabriel Flores and Lois Cartwright. At age 17 he came to the United States to finish school and graduated from Oxnard High school on June 1965. He was a very proud member of the United States Air Force, enlisted on May 26th 1966 and was honorably discharged on May 25th 1972. While serving he fought in the Vietnam War.
After being honorably discharged he then moved to Korea for a while but soon came back to the U.S to attend University. Gabriel acquired a BSBA in finances and empirical knowledge of laws and knew 8 different languages. After that he had several jobs along the way in different banks but finally landing in SBA as a federal loan officer specialist.
On May 28th 1986 in Los Angeles, he met whom was going to be his everything, his backbone, and his wife, Rosa M Diaz, later to be Rosa F. Cartwright. After 3 years of dating, on March 28th 1989 he had is first and only daughter Lois Maurine Cartwright, named after his beloved mother.
Along the way of his life Gabriel picked up several hobbies: Photography, painting, growing and nurturing bonsai, hunting, and most importantly fishing. Fishing was his favorite and would share all he knew with his wife and daughter; they would all go fishing together for trout and bass. One of his favorite fishing memories was when he went to fish on Irvine Lake with his 8year old daughter, just the two of them, and they got caught with an incoming storm and had to out run it, which they did.
Gabriel had great love for his family and pets and would put his life on the line to protect them. He will always be remembered as a strong-hearted man, who was strict, straightforward, a protector, and did not put up with BS (as he would put it) but in all, he meant well.
Gabriel is survived by his wife Rosa F. Cartwright, Daughter Lois M. Cartwright, and his beloved dogs: Taquito, Reyna, and Mocha Cartwright. Taquito was one of his greatest companions but passed away May 21st 2010. But now they will be reunited and together forever
"The Rainbow Bridge"
There's a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth.
It is called the Rainbow bridge because of its many colors.
Just this side of the Rainbow bridge is a verdant land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet passes, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather.
Old and Ill and frail animals are made whole. They play all day with each other in the beautiful sunshine.
They are happy and content, but there is one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth.
So each day they run and play until the day comes when, suddenly, one stops playing and looks up!
The nose twitches, the eyes are staring and this one suddenly runs from the group!
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her into your arms and embrace.
Your face is kissed again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the rainbow bridge together, never again to be separated...
