I always admired Larry as a great person! He was always willing to help you. When I started at UPS Glendale Center part-time with "14 package cars" Larry talked with me about a "Future" with UPS. Moving to the new Hub in Van Nuys in 1976, sealed it. I do remember Larry was always around, especially with a visit from James Casey and the board and the start up of Next Day Air in 1985. Larry was to me "The Face of UPS". Our company was always people oriented, which Larry was! He was responsible for my early retirement. With 30 + years, VNHUB and able to raise a family, and all the goings on with life! I wish my best for his family. Larry will always be a remembered by myself.  Wayne Walters Minden, Nevada. When I walked into the HR department at the Van Nuys hub, I had sand all over my legs and feet, on my shoulders, Ocean water still dripping from my nose. A tank top, flip flops, and sunburn. I had my surf boards still on my car a blue 1972 Datsun 510 light blue, in the parking lot. I just got back from an early morning session it was 9:30 in the am.  I filled out the application. I mentioned that I'm heading to the Navy recruiter next. (I was hook and baiting you) 

You looked me up and down and said; "we like surfers, do have a good pair of work boots"? It was August of 1985. You said UPS is starting a new service called "Next Day Air". I said; "I'm all in". You hired me September 4, 1985. You said start from the bottom and work you way up. 

By 1991 I became a next day air driver. The many times you made sure I was delivering to your moms house on Brighton street, and to knock on the door to hand her, her letter always made me smile. She answered every time. I talked with her longer than any customer on route.  By 1994 I had gone full-time and had my own route by 1996. I remember seeing before you retired, you winked and gave me a thumbs up and said, "great Job kid". I said jokingly;  "I'm gonna fly the jet some day"... laughter.  

The best years of my career were working with and for you for almost 10 years. God Bless you and your family. For making sure I made it as far as I did.

I was working at my computer tonight, when for some unknown reason, Larry's friendly and smiling face popped into mind. I immediately performed a Google search and was absolutely saddened to learn of Larry's passing.

The last time Larry and I talked in person was, in 2009, at the Costco in Burbank, California. Chatting for about 40 minutes, we shared memories of the old days working at the UPS hub in Van Nuys, California. Shortly after seeing Larry at Costco, I sold my Burbank home and moved out of state. Nevertheless, we occasionally touched bases around the holidays via email.
 
In 1974, Larry interviewed me for the position of temporary Christmas driver.  During the interview, we made a friend connection that remained solid during my seven years of employment with UPS.  At the Van Nuys hub, I recall, never a week went by that I didn't drop in Larry's office to say hello or to talk shop. As busy as Larry was, he always made time for a friendly and in depth conversation.

During one of those office visits, in 1981, I mentioned that my work at UPS had run its course, and I needed a career change. I will always remember Larry was  as usual  very respectful and supportive of my decision to leave a steady, well-paying job for a chance of a career in the relatively new field of computer technology.
 
In part, I have Larry Fagan to thank for helping me make the quantum leap from UPS package car driver to an executive and technology professional.

Dear Ann and Family, I'm still in a haze as I think of Larry and all the years of memories of this stellar man. One of a kind for sure, admired and looked up to over decades. I had the privilege of meeting Larry at the golf course in our latter years and we became good golf buddies for many years, we always complimented each other and were good to locate errant shots for each other, Larry was a good man, God Bless him. I had the privilage to work indirectly with Larry Sr. while at Olympic and Van Nuys.....he was my source of information and gossip.  We had a lot of fun because he was such a positive person so dedicated to UPS.  I also had the privilage of working with Jr. in IE at San Fernando Bldg for a short while, I thought what a great father Sr was.  I will truly miss him and all his wonderful stories.

My condolences on your loss. Larry was truly one of kind - personally and professionally. We shared a Pennsylvania connection that lasted from my initial interview until our last meeting. I was one of the hundreds he hired. And like other, his faith in me and my abilities changed my life. For that, I am forever grateful.

Larry hired me along with hundreds of others (maybe thousands) I hounded him, even sending a telegram in hopes of getting a job at UPS. he was impressed, and hired me. I owe my wonderful life and ability to retire to Larry hiring and believing in me. In a time when female drivers were not the norm, he put his faith in me. Throughout my career he was very supportive and concerned with my career. He is such a bright, positive influence in my 33 year career. Love to The Family

What a wonderful man! Larry hired me at UP in 1975. He was always smiling and kind. If it weren't for him my husband and I wouldn't have our wonderful son, as Larry hired Mike in 1976, and we were married in 1989. We miss you Larry!

Larry hired me in 1972 as Christmas driver .I worked at the old Parthenia Center in Northridge. Larry hired me full time in April1973 as a "Casual Floater".I delivered for about ten centers in fifteen days, worked in a hub two days then I was assigned to Hollywood Center full time. After my introduction to the center manager Jack Yager, as I left the office Jack said he wanted to see MORE of my ears on Monday.  Hair cut time! Appreance Standards.

RIP Larry, you were one of the founding fathers of Olympic.

I had take a minute and figure out that I met Larry at UPS over 45 years ago. Always a gentleman and a guy who personfied integrity in his work for Big Brown. Whether showing founder Jim Casey around a hub, or hiring part-timers for peak season, Larry always gave 110%. But from the photos on this tribute page, it is obvious that his first priority and love was for his wonderful family. Sorely missed. Sorely missed.

I'll see you in everything I ever do or am a part of that is great. I love you.

Larry always smiled when I saw him and it was such a pleasure to talk with him about grandchildren and how wonderful they are.  He will be deeply missed by our staff as he made his trips by to bring our special orders from Avon.  He always brought us sunshine!!!  We will truly miss him!!  (Alameda Surgery Center)

Larry hired an entire generation of great  UPS'ers...many of whom had long careers. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
