¿TIENE UN RECUERDO O UNA CONDOLENCIA QUE AÑADIR?

AÑADIR UN RECUERDO

My brother Patrick and I grew up with Rick in Burbank Calif. We all went to school together, earned Eagle Scout together and ran wild in the hills above Burbank and always with Ricks faithful dog, Duke. So many memories of hanging around at Ricks parents home, eating, listening to Beatles records and horsing around. On one occasion, Rick and I were wrestling and broke his dads favorite recliner chair. We tried to blame it on Duke. We all played football in high school and went on to major in Biology. In 1975, Rick, myself and our Friend Gary Stair, drove Gary’s Ford Apache 10 truck the entire length of Baja Calif in Search of adventure. Two in the cab and one rode in the back. No seat belts, Just an old truck, scuba gear, fishing poles, a little money and cases of Tecate beer. We slept on the truck, and had a real adventure. Midway Thru the adventure, Rick was Reeling in a huge fish and his glasses fell off into the ocean. He was half blind the rest of the trip. I’m currently hiking the John Muir Trail and was Re supplying when I heard the news. It was a real privilege to grow up with and have so many adventures with Rick. I will always have such fond Memories of those 1960s/1970s years.
Rest In Peace Rick

In Memorium

Knighted on the Altar
Ad Altari Dei
Remind him dearest Jesus
of the prayers that he once prayed
Royal in religion
Truer still in love
giving to his lady
the purest of his gloves
boyhood's first companion
In the golden rule
Climbing up those mountains
high above the school
manhood seemed so far away
In those boyish days
flying all its colors
In the merits he displayed
diving in the ocean
lion in the sea
clashing on the grid iron
like the knights of chivalry
Studying the universe
with scientific eye
Vying for his haven
Heaven's only spy
rest him now eternal
from his breast and brawn
From amid this tumult
a cheer that carries on
Praying every morning
for his souls repose
Hope that springs eternal
Give to him a rose.
Beauty out of Ashes
Sweet new song divine
Till we meet together
at the end of time

I worked for many years in herps across the hall from Rick. Anyone who knows anything about the museum knows how many deep dark times we trudged through. Rick's smiling good humor sustained my sprit through many a bleak day. All I have to do is just think about "The Feen" and a smile comes to me. Hope someone shares some photos of young Rick.

I got to know Rick during my many visit to the Natural History Museum to work in the herpetology collection, just across the hall from fishes. Rick was a kind and extremely giving person. He had an infectious laugh which was a joy to hear. We both were ice hockey fans and would exchange insights on the latest news about the sport. We had a running joke that I was an unrestricted hockey free agent that nobody wanted. He also helped me with computer issues. Yes, every visit to the museum was a pleasure, thanks to Rick.

Rick was one of our very favorite people at the museum ... and in life. His gentle demeanor and wry sense of humor endeared him to so many other staff members. Being a fellow Burbanker we hit it off right away and even carpooled to work for many years. Rick never criticized any one and was polite to an extreme. For good measure he was a Dodger fan, Lakers fan, Kings fan, and USC fan. We sorely miss him and love him very much. RIP RFF.
