Alain is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Josie, his children Jason (Suzanne), Michael, and Melissa (Matt), his adoring grandchildren Roman, Sophie and Alexander, and his siblings Richard (Louise) and Sylvie (Jean). Alain also leaves behind a large extended family including brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Lucette, his sister Marlene, and his granddaughter Madeleine.
Alain was born on July 9, 1947 in Montreal, QC, and from that moment on he was a loyal Montreal Canadiens fan. In 1975, Alain, Josie and Jason moved out west to Vancouver, BC where they established roots on William Street. One of Alain’s proudest achievements was coaching Jason and Michael’s Hastings Minor Hockey teams, and little league baseball teams—the Pirates and the Expos. They won multiple championships, and their photos adorn the walls of the Agrodome at the PNE. In 1987, Alain and his family moved from East Van to Burnaby where he welcomed his daughter Melissa shortly after.
Throughout his life, Alain was an avid golfer and had two dreams: to play the famous Pebble Beach golf course, and to sink a hole in one. In 2017 his family helped achieve one dream with a surprise trip to Pebble Beach for his 70th birthday. And in 2022 it finally happened - Alain sank a hole in one.
While Alain found immense joy in playing and watching sports, his true passion was spending time with his family. He enjoyed making everyone laugh around the dinner table, getting down on the floor to play with his grandchildren, and not letting anyone else win when playing board games.
In 2010, Alain had a liver transplant that extended his life another 14 years. In those cherished years he became a grandfather, happily taking the moniker “Peppers.” He also honoured his daughter by walking her down the aisle on her wedding day. Alain was a great man who lived a great life, and he will always be remembered as a loving, kind, and funny husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, brother-in-law, and friend.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, 555 Slocan Street, Vancouver on Friday September 6, 2024 at 12:00pm. Entombment will follow at Ocean View Burial Park, South Mausoleum. The family requests no flowers.
