Alan was born in Vancouver and lived his life in Burnaby and New Westminster. He is predeceased by his mother Sheila (2008), father Charlie (2015), and his brother Gordon (2019). Alan leaves a large extended family and a great many friends.
Alan was a private man and many of us did not know all he did, nor his wide circle of friends. Alan has given us a wonderful example of living in friendship with all whom you meet.
Alan graduated from Burnaby South and had a group of former classmates he met with regularly to attend rock concerts, cheer at BC Lions games, volunteer at the Vancouver Foodbank, and do a wide variety of other activities. He worked at the Costco on Brighton Avenue in Burnaby for over 35 years where he was a friendly, dedicated and conscientious employee. Alan greeted many customers by name genuinely caring about their lives. Some of them he met with outside of work sharing social gatherings and even weekly dinners. Alan enjoyed meeting with other friends for lunch or a beer or two. He liked to travel with different groups of people he knew to share the experiences. He went many places in the world from Great Britain to Mexico, Hawaii, China, Thailand, and more.
Alan enjoyed driving powerful cars from his 1972 Dodge Challenger, bought soon after high school, to his Porche 911 Carrera Model S. Most people didn’t know he even had such cars as he drove for his pleasure – not to impress. His road trips were a special joy as he got to drive and visit friends throughout BC.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Surrey Memorial on N51, and especially Dr. Baker for the care and comfort given to Alan. We’d also like to thank Laurel Place Hospice. Alan’s stay was short but peaceful.
One of Alan’s final wishes was for family and friends to meet and get to know each other. We will gather for a Celebration of Alan’s Life at 1:30pm on October 21, 2025 at Ocean View Funeral Home.
