Alfonso Li, age 79, of Vancouver, British Columbia peacefully passed away on Sunday April 12, 2020. He was born October 1, 1940 in Lima, Peru to Antonio and Lilian Li. Alfonso is survived by Rosa, his loving wife of 56 years, sons Luis and Alex, daughter Rossana, grandchildren Sacha, Chloe and Alexis, sister Julia, his daughter-in-law Judy, his son-in-law Remi, his beloved nieces, nephews and all of his extended family. He will be lovingly remembered by all those he touched with his cooking, his humour and his generous heart.
Alfonso was born and raised in Lima where he met and married his wife Rosa. With their three young children, Alfonso and Rosa immigrated to Vancouver, BC in the 70’s, a place he had fallen in love with while honeymooning there. Vancouver became a home for him and his family his haven. He often took his clan on road trips exploring the beauty of Canada. Alfonso loved driving, loved cars, loved to travel, to see new places, to experience different cultures but always with his cherished family.
Alfonso will always be remembered as an exceptional cook, someone who took pleasure in food and feeding everyone. In the 1990’s, he opened his Peruvian restaurant Mirasol, which quickly earned him a loyal clientele and admiration for his cooking. Food was always important to Alfonso. It was his expression of love to those in his life. He was quick to laugh and always ready with a good pun. He loved going on cruises, watching sports in his lazy boy, loved music, movies and playing solitaire. He waltzed with elegance and grace. Most importantly, he was a generous man with a big heart, always ready to help in any way he could.
