March 7, 1927 – August 23, 2018
Beverley Shippam (William Shippam, d) passed away in peace at MSJ on August 23, 2018. Bev was beloved mother to daughters Barbara Robb (Neil Robb), Bette Shippam (Peter Vlahos); nana to Paul (Katie), Mark, Adrienne, Lindsey (Calin), Kate (Mike), and Sara; and great-nana to Kelly and Finley. Parents Jack and Daisy Dean were pioneers to Collingwood district in Vancouver, and Bev was raised with her three brothers, Jack, Harry and Morris, on McKinnon Street; whereafter, when she married Bill in 1950, she moved one block to Kerr Street! Her devotion to the community and area was indomitable, as she served on Parent Teachers Associations for both Carlton and Weir Elementary schools, volunteered in numerous capacities (choir, Council, worship committee, women’s groups) at her churches, Collingwood United, Burnaby South (now Jubilee) United, Selkirk Elementary School (librarian), YWCA (volunteer), and Fair Haven Homes Society (Board of Directors). She belonged to PALS club and Eastern Star, and supported Bill in all his masonic activities. After Bill passed away in 2017 (married 67 years), Bev chose to live at Shannon Oaks Retirement Home, located in her same dear neighbourhood to which she felt such a deep connection. All who knew Bev loved and respected her, enjoyed her infectious laugh, and understood she genuinely cared about them. Her presence in our lives will be greatly missed forever. A memorial service with refreshments to follow will be held October 6, 2:00 pm, Ocean View Funeral Home (near Central Park). In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Heart & Stroke Society, Fair Haven Homes Society, or another charity of your choice.
