May 18, 1941 – April 2, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bruno Della Savia at the age of 83. Bruno was born May 18, 1941, in Bertiolo, Udine, Italy, to parents Angelo and Adele (Spada). Bruno is survived by his loving wife of almost 55 years, Sandy, his three daughters Angela (Remo), Cristina (Dom), Susan (Peter), his son Larry (Theresa), grandchildren Melanie, Jaclyn (Randy), Greg (Jacqui), Kathryn (Brandon), Megan (Jeremy), Sarah, Nadia, Julia, Alessia and Fabiana, his great-grandchildren Tayo, Adeola, Ellie, Georgia, Ottilia and Gabriella, family from the Vancouver area, Ontario, Italy, Germany and many friends from all over the world.
Bruno immigrated to Canada in the early 50s and lived in Kingston, Ontario, for a brief time before settling in Vancouver. After graduating from Vancouver Technical Secondary School, he went on to work at Wright Engineers as a draftsman and then to Vancouver Community College as a drafting instructor. After his retirement from Vancouver Community College, Bruno continued to draw up plans for new homes and house renovations for family and friends. He designed and built the East Vancouver home where he had lived for over 50 years.
If there is one thing Bruno loved most of all, it was being a Nonno. His grandchildren brought him so much pride and joy. He attended as many sporting events and school functions as he could, celebrated their graduations, and even had a chance to dance with a couple of them at their weddings. Having six great grandchildren was a bonus and he loved when they would come for a visit; they would always put a smile on his face.
Another very important and fulfilling part of Bruno’s life was being part of “The Group” which was formed in 1965 by a group of men at Wright Engineers. Wives and children would follow and, although the couples would get together for dinner parties monthly, there were also numerous “Do’s” for New Year’s Eve and Halloween, camping trips to Tuc-el-nuit Lake in Oliver, road trips, vacations and many summer reunions. The group celebrated many milestones together and continue to be the best of friends; they really were a very important part and an extension of his family.
Bruno was a huge Vancouver Canucks and Seattle Seahawks fan and rarely missed watching a game. He also supported and watched his favourite soccer team from Udine, Italy. Bruno was proud of his Italian heritage and would go to many banquets and picnics and have many dinners at his favourite Italian restaurants. With his wife Sandy, they travelled the world, visiting Italy many times and cruising to sunny spots like the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico, through the Panama Canal, down the east coast and even Alaska. Bruno never visited a casino he didn’t like, and if you couldn’t find him on the ship, that is where he would be.
Bruno was also an avid gardener and took pride in his beautiful backyard garden, where he would often sit with Sandy, watching the hummingbirds flutter, listening to the babbling of the koi pond and waterfall he cherished.
Bruno’s legacy will live on through his family, and he will be deeply missed.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, 555 Slocan Street, Vancouver, B.C.
Burial to follow at Ocean View Burial Park, Burnaby B.C.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Canuck Place in his honour would be appreciated.
