17 January 1927 – 14 March 2024
Carl passed away peacefully at home with family at age 97. Born in Cranbrook and proud to grow up in Kimberley, BC, Carl was always ready to share fascinating stories of his youthful adventures in the Kootenays. He eventually settled on the coast, residing in Kerrisdale, and then quayside in New Westminster. He retired from the Department of National Revenue in 1983. Carl cherished his Finnish heritage. He loved to travel all over the world, most especially to Argentina and the Philippines. He had a passionate interest in history, the arts, and discussing current events.
He will be remembered as uncommonly kind and encouraging, always smiling, and the quintessential host. Predeceased by his parents Karl and Martta, as well as his first wife Joy, Carl is survived and greatly missed by longtime partner and wife of 11 years, Rosie Ramos, and their extended family and friends in Finland, the Philippines, the US, and Canada.
