Carlo was born at Ponzano, in Veneto, Italy. While he was a handsome young member of the Carabinieri, he was stationed in Bologna where he met a beautiful young woman named Dina, who became his bride. They emigrated in the mid-60s with their young family to East Vancouver, where Carlo lived until his death.
He had a long career with the District of North Vancouver, retiring at age 65 from the Parks Department. Carlo kept very busy during his retirement, enjoying gardening, doing handyman jobs and building things, travelling, and making wine and sausages. He could be found many evenings at the Italian Cultural Centre, organizing and playing bocce games and cards with his friends, and spending Sunday afternoons at Confederation Park. He was known in his community for sharing the labours of his garden, especially his tomatoes and zucchini, being the Block Watch captain for many years, and his willingness to lend a hand to others. Even near his final days, he still had projects planned and on the go, and brought Dina flowers every week to the Mausoleum and memorial site.
Most of all, Carlo enjoyed spending time with his family. He was predeceased by the sudden deaths of his youngest son Giorgio and then Dina, only months apart in 2017. This was devastating for him. With support from family and caregivers, he was able to live independently and comfortably in his family home until recently.
Carlo is survived by his oldest son Maurizio (Kathy) and daughter Oriana (Bob). Nonno will also be missed and remembered by his 9 grandchildren: Michael, Robert, Marcus, Andrew, Lisa, Reilly, Carissa, Matteo, and Alexis.
