Chris was born in Levuka, Fiji on December 24, 1958. After graduating from Marist Brothers High School in Suva, he attended Auckland University, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He migrated to Canada in 1979, building a career in accounting as a CGA and as a restaurateur. For the last 19 years, Chris worked for Canada Revenue Agency. Throughout his schooling and career, Chris gained many wonderful friends.
Chris loved to travel the world in search of unique experiences and great food. A true foodie, he was a brilliant cook who delighted his large extended family with his unforgettable contributions to their regular potlucks and gatherings. He was rarely seen without his faithful companion Ray, his 10-year-old Puggle. As the youngest of six kids, Chris developed the necessary survival skills of a large family: a thick skin and an easy sense of humour. He was a cool, calm, and collected guy, with a sharp wit and kind, generous heart. We will miss him terribly.
Chris is predeceased by his parents Dixon Leong Sang and Leong Bin Ho, and great-nephew, Brian. He is lovingly survived by his siblings Mary (Dawson), Gerald (Irene), George (Ruby), Barbara (David), and Barry (Shirly); his nieces and nephews Rodney, Lawrence (Cynthia), Dillon, Melody (Warren), Geraldine (Ryan), Kristal (Adrian), Bryck, Darrell (Jamie), Edlyn (Marvin), Jasmine (Greg), Adrian (Alissa), Neon, Sheldon (Korrie), Brandon (Helen), Clarissa (Jonathan), Shannon (Ryan); and his great-nieces and great-nephews Jason, Jayden, Sarah, Peyton, Kylah, Jack, Michael, Charlie, Melissa, Tyler, Emilia, Elijah, Elisabeth, Jacob, Ava, Ethan, Chloe, Gavin, and Marielle; and many other extended family members, friends, and colleagues around the world.
A memorial for Chris will be held at Holy Cross Parish at 1450 Delta Ave, Burnaby on Tuesday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Ocean View Cemetery.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the CSICU, CICU, and ICU nurses, doctors, and staff at Royal Columbian Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital for their hard work, compassion, and kindness during Chris’ final weeks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC SPCA or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
