

Claudio Ranallo, beloved by all who knew him, passed away on November 20, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on April 6, 1958, in Ateleta, L’Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy. Claudio was the youngest of three boys. Born to Guerino and Albina Ranallo. From an early age, he carried a deep devotion to family, tradition, and hard work - values that shaped the remarkable life he lived.
At just 15, Claudio left his hometown to attend culinary school in Sorrento, Italy, beginning what would become a lifelong passion for cooking. During his military service as a Carabiniere, he had the honour of preparing meals for several renowned generals. His skill, dedication, and discipline in the kitchen opened doors to opportunities at prestigious hotels in Stresa on Lago Maggiore, Como, and in Verbier, Switzerland.
At 21, Claudio immigrated to Canada with his parents. Reuniting with his brothers Pasqualino and Eutimio and their families. The three brothers shared an inseparable bond - rooted in loyalty, love, and deep respect for one another. Only weeks after arriving in Canada, Claudio began working at the restaurant that would become his life’s work and legacy. Through unwavering dedication, perseverance, and extraordinary work ethic, he built what is known today as La Piazza Dario Ristorante. His commitment and integrity earned him the admiration of family, friends, customers, colleagues, and employees.
Claudio is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Lidia, his constant companion. He leaves behind his cherished children, Jessica (John) and Marcello (Elena), who will forever hold close his guidance, humour, and unwavering love. Claudio’s greatest pride and happiness came from his grandchildren - Leonardo, Michela, Alessia, and Cristiano - each of whom he adored with all his heart. His happiest moments were spent surrounded by them, sharing meals, laughter, and precious time together.
He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Annita and Domenica, his brother-in-law Gino, and his beloved Zia’s Iole, Duilia (Elio), Elisa (Francesco), Rosaria, and Filomena. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, colleagues, and employees whose lives were touched by his kindness, generosity, and warmth.
Claudio is predeceased by his parents, Albina and Guerino; his in-laws, Lina and Giuseppe Marandola; his brothers Pasqualino and Eutimio; and his sister-in-law Rosa.
Claudio was a hardworking, lovable, humble and deeply generous man. His life’s purpose was simple yet profound: to help others and bring happiness wherever he could. His devotion to his family was at the heart of everything he did. He worked tirelessly to ensure his loved ones were cared for and supported, finding his greatest fulfillment in spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his resilience, compassion, remarkable culinary talent, and boundless love for those around him. Claudio’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the community he helped build, and the family he cherished. He will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of all who knew him.
Prayers will be held at St. Helen's Parish, located at 3860 Triumph St, Burnaby, BC, V5C 2A6, on December 1, 2025, at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the same venue on December 2, 2025, at 11:00 am.Entombment will follow at Ocean View Burial Park, South Mausoleum.
