Cleveland was predeceased by his loving wife Vivian, parents Floyd and Elizabeth and seven siblings.
Cleveland was the loving father to Deborah (Jerry), Deryl. Beloved Grandfather to Renée, Delon (Kristiana) and Marlon (Melissa). Great-grandchildren, Breanne, Lauren, Alec, Draycen, Daxton and Jaxson.
Cleveland's family lived on a farm in Breton Alberta. In 1938 the family moved to Kelowna B.C. In 1941, their father Floyd passed away. Cleveland, at 13 years old was sent back to Breton, Alberta to look over the family farm and assess if the property was suitable for the family to move back to…which they did.
Cleveland married Vivian (nee Williams) in Edmonton, on November 12th, 1949. They lived there for a few years before moving to Calgary, then onto Vancouver in 1957. Cleveland worked as a Porter on the CNR and CPR. When he was home on his weeks off, Cleveland cooked and cleaned at home while Vivian worked at The Bay department store in downtown Vancouver. Debbie and Deryl have fond memories of the family eating at the Greasy Spoon in China Town, The Malt Stop at The Bay, and dinners at the Oyster Bar on Granville Street.
Vivian sometimes walked the children down to the tracks by the B.C. Sugary Refinery to see Cleveland's train go by. As the train passed, Cleveland threw out chocolate bars to Debbie and Deryl as they waved good-bye.
In 1960 the family moved back to Edmonton for a year, then onto Leduc, Alberta near the new Edmonton International Airport. Cleveland worked there as a Porter until a call came in 1964, from Vancouver asking Cleveland if he would take on a Porter position at the Vancouver Airport. He eagerly accepted the position because his goal was to work at YVR. The family moved back to Vancouver where Cleveland worked 46 years at YVR. He was well respected and liked by all.
Deryl and Debbie remember the family road trips to Edmonton leaving at 3:00 a.m. so that the family would arrive by suppertime in Edmonton. They were very happy when they could fly there.
Cleveland and Vivian enjoyed vacations twice a year to Honolulu, cruises to the Caribbean and Mexico, trips to Fiji and one to New Zealand. The grandchildren were happy to join them on one of those trips to Hawaii.
Cleveland loved his family very much and cared about what each one was doing. He worked hard and was a good provider. Cleveland will be greatly missed.
