Mr. Cyril Francis O'Brien

O'BRIEN, Cyril Francis August 10, 1921 – May 31, 2014 Cy passed away peacefully on May 31, 2014, at the age of 92, with his family at his side. He will be sorely missed by his son Ross (Linda); his grandchildren, Eric, Hayley and Evan and his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years Lillian; his parents; sisters Phyllis and Bea and his brother Des. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Cy was very active in many sports including ice hockey. He served in the Air Force during World War II, stationed primarily in Belgium. After the war, Cy graduated from the University of Manitoba and was admitted as a member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba in 1949. Cy met his wife Lillian while working at Eaton's in Montreal. They married in 1950 and in 1957 moved to Vancouver. Cy started working at CP Air as Comptroller and worked his way up to become Senior Vice President of Finance and Accounting. Cy and Lil shared a love of traveling and in later years, cherished their time together and with family. For over 20 years following his retirement, he was the sole care giver for Lil. In 2005, Cy moved to Gilmore Gardens and thoroughly enjoyed seven wonderful years making many new friends and great memories. In late 2012, he moved to Royal City Manor where the staff really enjoyed his company and were great to him. Cy was respected and liked by all who met him over the years. He was very positive, friendly, caring and had a great sense of humour. Time and time again people would say, "What a nice man." Cy had a strong love of God and we are all truly blessed to have known and loved him. Thanks to Gilmore Gardens, Royal City Manor, Dr. Morton David (over 30 years) and Dr. David Freedman.
