Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Debby was predeceased by her father Donald Patrick and is survived by her husband Rob Della Schiava, children Justin, Regan, Christy (Kyle), grandchildren Anais, Eva, Riley, Liam, Tristan and Henry, son-in-law Curt, several nieces and nephews, family in Italy and long-time family friends.
She will be remembered for her kindness, unrelenting positive attitude, sense of humour, friendliness and welcoming smile as well as her fierce loyalty to family and close friends.
Debby’s greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. Spending time with her grandchildren, watching them grow and participate in sports and other activities and several marathon shopping sessions at Pacific Centre Mall brought her particular happiness.
Debby was a keen sports fan, enjoying NFL and CFL football, baseball, NASCAR, soccer (Whitecaps and Inter Milan), tennis, horse racing and road cycling. Following in her father’s footsteps, Debby played baseball much of her life and along with her son, was an ardent Blue Jays fan seeing Jays games in Seattle and New York.
Debby and Rob were married 22 years and during that time enjoyed travelling to Italy and Europe and to her favourite warm weather climates of Hawaii and Mexico. They also enjoyed attending concerts, movies, stand-up comedy shows, sporting events and dining out. Debby’s daily outings included walking along the Seawall and her neighbourhood of Yaletown. Two of her favourite interests were gardening and music.
Special thanks to Dr. Anna Cooper and the doctors, nurses and staff at the BC Cancer Agency and the Palliative Care Unit at VGH for their expert and compassionate care. It truly made a positive difference to Debby and her family.
